About The Position

Under the direction of the Transportation Director, the Bus Monitor is responsible for maintaining a warm, healthy environment to promote the total growth and well-being of the children in the program. This role involves ensuring child safety on an assigned vehicle, assisting children with boarding and disembarking, and providing pro-active supervision at all times. The Bus Monitor also serves as a mandated reporter and must attend required trainings and staff meetings, adhering to the Y Child Safety Code of Conduct. This list of responsibilities is not meant to be all-inclusive and may be adjusted to meet the operational needs of the agency and the Learning Center Program.

Requirements

• High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• At least 1 year of experience working with school-aged children.
• Ability to mitigate conflict while still performing all essential duties.
• Have a track record of safe practices and working with children.
• Sit, stand, or reach for extended periods of time.
• Move around the work environment independently.
• Communicate via computer, multi-line phone, and smart-phone.
• Push, pull, or lift up to 25 pounds for short periods of time.

Nice To Haves

• Become certified in AED, CPR, and First Aid within 90 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary person responsible for child safety on an assigned vehicle.
• Complete and confirm daily attendance counts and rosters.
• Assist children with street crossing, getting on and off the bus and door-to-door transfers.
• Ensure the safety of children on the vehicle by following all Y rules and best practices for managing youth.
• Provide pro-active supervision of children on the bus at all times.
• Serve as a mandated reporter for our transportation operations.
• Attend safety, in-services and other trainings and staff meetings.
• Follow and administer the Y Child Safety Code of Conduct.
