About The Position

Cedar Bus Company LLC is seeking a Bus Monitor to ensure transportation and workplace safety policies are in compliance with company, state and federal regulations. The Bus Monitor will safely transport clients to and from programs in the mornings and afternoons, ensuring the bus is always kept clean and that all clients are safe. This includes securing wheelchair-bound clients, operating the wheelchair lift, and checking the working condition of seatbelts. The role also involves keeping routes updated, dispatching updates on any issues, reporting disciplinary issues, assisting clients on and off the bus, being flexible to assist other routes, and working as a team member with drivers and operations staff. Regular safety trainings are required, as is buckling and periodically checking that clients remain buckled. The Bus Monitor will also assist the driver with directions as needed, clean the bus during their shift, fill out run sheet data, and be dependable and on time. Other job duties as assigned by a Supervisor/Manager or their designee.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Ability to pull and push 250 lbs. and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time and bend to secure wheelchair bound clients
  • Ability to display empathy towards clients
  • Willingness to grow within the company.

Nice To Haves

  • Applicable transportation industry experience
  • Experience with transportation, logistics, or navigation software
  • Experience using electronics and tablets
  • Experience in transporting individuals who have developmental disabilities
  • First aid qualified

Responsibilities

  • Ensure transportation and workplace safety policies are in compliance with company, state and federal regulations.
  • Safely transport clients to and from programs in the mornings and afternoons.
  • Ensure that the bus is always kept clean.
  • Ensure safety of all clients, including securing wheelchair bound clients as well as operating the wheelchair lift and checking working condition of seatbelts.
  • Keep routes updated and dispatch abreast of any issues that may arise (e.g. running behind schedule).
  • Report all disciplinary issues to operations staff so appropriate measures can be taken.
  • Assist clients with getting on and off the bus as needed.
  • Be flexible and assist other routes as needed.
  • Work as a member of a team – with drivers, operations staff.
  • Attend periodic regular safety trainings.
  • Buckle client’s seatbelts and check periodically that clients remain buckled.
  • Assist driver with directions as needed.
  • Clean bus during course of duty shift.
  • Fill out run sheet data.
  • Be dependable and on time.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned by Supervisor/Manager and/or his or her designee.
