About The Position

The South Shore Regional Centre for Education (SSRCE) is seeking a Bus Monitor for Bayview Community School. SSRCE is committed to providing an inclusive, diverse, equitable, safe, and healthy education to the residents of Lunenburg and Queens Counties. This role involves assisting the bus driver in supervising students to ensure a safe environment during transportation to and from school.

Requirements

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
First Aid Training
Experience working with children / youth
Satisfactory Criminal Record / Vulnerable Sector Check
Nova Scotia Child Abuse Register Check

Responsibilities

Assist the bus driver in supervising students to ensure a safe environment.
Operate the outside of the bus lift when not accompanied by TA.
Participate in securing the wheelchair safely.
Monitor the actions of the students on the bus to and from school.
Assist the driver in unloading the wheelchair when not accompanied by TA.
Fasten and remove seat belts for the walk on students.
Load and unload children from the bus safely to their Teacher Assistants if the TAs are there waiting, if not, the driver will be responsible to keep the children on the bus until the TAs arrive while the bus monitor proceeds with wheelchair procedure.
Familiar with bus evacuation procedures.
