The Bus Monitor will ride buses and help the driver ensure the safe and orderly transportation of students with disabilities. This role requires the ability to follow verbal instructions, communicate effectively, and operate safety equipment. The Bus Monitor will learn and adapt to each student’s special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs, manage student behavior, and communicate with teachers and parents daily regarding student behavior while on the bus. Familiarity with all routes and maintaining an updated route schedule is also part of the responsibilities. The role involves supervising the use of safety restraints, following emergency procedures, and assisting the driver with first aid if necessary. The Bus Monitor will operate equipment according to safety procedures and follow established techniques for job duties, including lifting and assisting students. Familiarity with and adherence to procedures established by transportation and special education offices are required. The Bus Monitor will also assist the driver in keeping the bus clean and may work irregular hours as needed.
