About The Position

LANTA is looking for qualified individuals to join our team as a Bus Mechanic. This role involves performing routine and minor repairs, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting on LANTA buses and shop equipment. The position also provides support to the Operations Department, including bus pullouts, vehicle exchanges, vehicle recovery, and snow plowing. Accurate documentation of all actions taken, adherence to safety standards, and continuous professional development are key aspects of this role.

Requirements

Knowledge of electrical systems, air systems, brakes, chassis and suspension, HVAC, diesel/CNG/Hybrid engines, and transmissions.
Knowledge of operating theory, failure diagnosis, repair, and preventive maintenance practices common to buses and heavy-duty vehicles.
Ability to read, understand, and use maintenance, repair and parts manuals, and computer-based maintenance information systems.
Ability to read and understand electrical schematics/wiring diagrams and ladder logic.
Ability to exercise sound judgment and problem-solving skills to make reasonable and appropriate decisions and recommendations.
Skills with common mechanic hand tools, pneumatic tools, and diagnostic equipment.
Basic knowledge of electrical and gas welding.
Related past work experience or academic/technical education required.
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Must satisfactorily complete performance test before the end of probationary period.
Must possess valid Class B CDL driver's license.
Must possess a valid Class 7 State Inspection License.
Must possess tools pertinent to occupation.

Nice To Haves

Experience working on mass transit and CNG vehicles is preferred.

Responsibilities

Perform routine and minor repairs and preventative maintenance on LANTA buses and shop equipment.
Remove, repair, and replace parts and components as necessary.
Use tools and equipment in a safe and professional manner.
Provide varied support to the Operations Department (e.g., bus pullout, vehicle exchanges, vehicle recovery, snow plowing).
Conduct accurate and professional PM inspections.
Troubleshoot vehicle systems, identify root causes of problems, and perform subsequent repairs.
Respond to road calls.
Accurately and professionally document all actions taken in written and electronic format, and complete all necessary forms.
Assist in providing training and direction to other mechanics.
Actively and continuously improve professional knowledge, skills, and abilities by participating in training sessions when required.
Understand and adhere to departmental, organizational, and industry safety standards and practices.
Work with others and abide by department code of conduct and policies.
Perform duties of and direct activities of employees of lesser classifications as required.
