About The Position

The YMCA is seeking a part-time Bus Driver to transport children to and from afterschool programs. This role is crucial for ensuring the safety and well-being of children, fostering a positive environment, and maintaining open communication with families. The driver will be responsible for safe transportation, vehicle maintenance, and adhering to all safety policies and regulations. This position also involves collaboration with program staff and a commitment to YMCA values.

Requirements

Valid Class B CDL driver's license with passenger endorsement
Clean driving record
Genuine passion for working with children
Must be able to pass a background check

Nice To Haves

Prior experience as a bus driver, particularly in a school or childcare setting

Responsibilities

Transport children from local schools to the YMCA facility for afterschool programs and back home safely.
Ensure the safety and security of each child during the transportation process.
Comply fully with YMCA transportation policies and state and local codes.
Conduct the route in a manner that maintains timeliness and is accident-free.
Ensure the proper maintenance and use of the vehicle, including its interior and exterior appearance.
Connect with families and manage all passengers effectively.
Communicate and positively reinforce passenger safety rules.
Complete the vehicle use log after each route.
Accurately complete incident/accident reports in accordance with staff training.
Adapt to varying schedules, routes, and the dynamic needs of the afterschool program.
Maintain a calm and patient demeanor, even in unexpected situations.
Collaborate with program coordinators and staff to ensure a seamless transition for children from transportation to program activities.
