About The Position

The South Shore Regional Centre for Education (SSRCE) is seeking a Bus Driver for Route 249. This permanent position, effective September 1, 2026, involves transporting students to and from Bridgewater Elementary & Junior High Schools, as well as Hebbville Academy. The SSRCE is committed to providing an inclusive, diverse, equitable, safe, and healthy education to students in Lunenburg and Queens Counties. Requirements

• Valid driver’s license (class 2B Bus driver’s license with air brake endorsement).
• Completion of South Shore Regional School Board bus driver training course or equivalent.
• Ability to work collaboratively with other transportation staff.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Effective interpersonal skills.

• Satisfactory Criminal Record / Vulnerable Sector Check.

Responsibilities

• Operates assigned vehicle safely and in compliance with relevant regulations and policies (National Safety Code, Motor Carrier Act, Registry of Motor Vehicle Regulations, Board Policy, internal procedures).
• Enforces safety rules and discipline on the school bus according to Board policy and Motor Carrier Regulations.
• Uses good judgment in determining road conditions during inclement weather and advises the Transportation Manager of potential hazards.
• Ensures the assigned bus is well maintained, including daily cleaning of the interior and exterior.
• Reports any mechanical or body repair problems to the Lead Head Mechanic.
• Submits necessary driver records and reports in a timely fashion, such as Time and Mileage reports, Extra Curricular Trip forms, Fuel Consumption, School Bus Discipline Reports, Vehicle Accident Report forms, Student Information Sheets, and National Safety Code – Daily Log.
