About The Position

The bus drivers will transport youth members from school to the clubhouse and other staff to special events, such as field trips or sporting events. They may also fulfill other duties at the clubhouse in their extra time, taking on part-time work as building monitors or program aides. Bus drivers must be attentive to traffic and weather conditions while staying on schedule and ensuring the safety of passengers. They must ensure that their vehicles are operating properly each day by testing brakes, tires, and other components. Drivers are also responsible for maintaining a safe environment within the bus by enforcing rules of conduct and responding to emergencies. They must keep track of inspections and safety drills, the amount of fuel used, number and names of students transported, and miles driven, and communicate detailed information with their supervisors regularly.

Requirements

  • CLASS B or HIGHER WITH A PS and V ENDORSEMENT ON A VALID CT DRIVERS LICENSE IS REQUIERD
  • Over the age of 21
  • 5 years of verifiable driving experience
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Must pass all required background checks
  • Must pass drug screening/participate in random drug testing

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with youth/children is a plus
  • CPR & First Aid Certification a plus

Responsibilities

  • Drives 10 and/or 26-passenger vehicles in accordance with time schedules, picking up and dropping off members at designated destinations.
  • Obeys all traffic laws and WBGC policies and procedures, including the prohibition of distracted driving including, but not limited to; handheld electronic devices such as cell phones, earbuds, or other communication devices while operating the vehicle.
  • Maintains order and proper discipline of youth while in the vehicle.
  • Documents any youth behavioral incidents/accidents that occur during transportation services.
  • Practices safe drop-off procedures including the Rule of 3. Drivers implement a process to ensure vehicles are empty and all members have been accounted for.
  • Conducts and logs daily safety and operational inspection of assigned vehicle before and after use.
  • Ensures vehicles receive quarterly scheduled safety checks and maintenance that are logged.
  • Reports needed mechanical repairs when necessary.
  • Services vehicles with gas and fills tires as needed.
  • Maintains cleanliness of vehicle to ensure safe operating condition and ensures vehicles are locked upon conclusion of use and all vehicles safety supplies are restocked.
  • Completes mileage and other reports which may include passenger counts.
  • Ensures logs are maintained to account for each member's whereabouts during transportation, including loading and unloading, pick up and drop off.
  • Attending various meetings and training regarding safety, first aid, and other items as needed.
  • Ensure Club vehicles have on board all appropriate safety equipment (first aid kit, safety triangles, LED road flares, charged extinguishers, etc.)
  • Ability to work with staff, parents/guardians, school administration, and the community.
  • Fulfills other duties as assigned by supervisor.
