The purpose of the Bus Driver & School Float Support role is to ensure the safe and reliable transportation of school-age children to and from neighboring elementary schools, while also supporting in the classroom to cover breaks and prepare meals as needed.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Physically capable of safely and quickly evacuating the vehicle in case of an emergency.
  • Must be alert, observant, and able to ensure the safety of children while driving and during transitions.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including lifting children and class materials (up to 65lbs), bending, kneeling, and being active throughout the day.
  • Must pass background checks, including, Nebraska Child and Adult Abuse and Neglect Central Registry, Nebraska State Patrol fingerprinting process.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification (or willingness to complete upon hire).
  • Completion of Safe Kids Buckle Up training (provided by the center).
  • Willingness to complete required DHHS training and ongoing professional development.

Responsibilities

  • Safely transport children to and from school and on field trips.
  • Follow all safety procedures to ensure every child is accounted for, including head counts and walk-throughs of the bus after each trip.
  • Provide consistent, high-quality care that supports the emotional, social, physical, and cognitive needs of every child—always using positive, respectful interactions.
  • Perform weekly bus inspections and refill essential fluids (washer fluid, oil, coolant, etc.); report findings to the Director.
  • Complete light cleaning duties on the bus and around the center.
  • Maintain annual training hours and comply with licensing regulations.
  • Greet every parent and child warmly and professionally.
  • Carry out any other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain a safe, sanitary, and organized kitchen environment.
  • Prepare nutritious, high-quality meals and snacks while following safe food-handling practices.
  • Deliver meals to classrooms and collect dirty dishes.
  • Wash dishes, sanitize surfaces, and ensure the kitchen is cleaned daily.
  • Complete light cleaning duties in the kitchen and assist with general center cleaning as needed.
  • Assist classrooms with daily routines and transitions as needed.
  • Provide a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for children and families.
  • Help with light cleaning, organization, and classroom support tasks.
  • Step in to cover staff breaks or support teachers when extra help is needed.
