About The Position

Under general supervision, the part-time Bus Driver for Parks is responsible for transporting passengers for the Senior Adult Travel Program. Incumbents must transport passengers to and from events in a safe, efficient, and timely manner.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of streets and public facilities in the city and surrounding metro areas.
  • Skill in making simple math calculations.
  • Skill in reading and interpreting maps, directional signage, and other roadway signs.
  • Skill in responding to emergency situations by applying established procedures.
  • Skill in recognizing proper vehicle condition before operating.
  • Skill in communicating with other City employees and the public by oral and written means, including use of a cellular telephone.
  • Ability to be empathetic and cognizant of problems senior adults may experience as part of a travel program.
  • Ability to maneuver a large transit vehicle safely through traffic.
  • Ability to receive and effectively process detailed information through written and oral communication and make fine discriminations in sound.
  • Ability to perform a variety of physical skills including but not limited to driving, seeing, carrying, pushing, and writing.
  • Ability to lift or exert forces equivalent to lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to operate a passenger bus with up to 26 riders.
  • Ability to work in an outdoor environment.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent customer service.
  • Ability to maintain a good driving record.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Possession of a valid Texas Operator’s License, Class B.
  • Criminal background check
  • Physical/Human Performance Evaluation (HPE)
  • Motor Vehicle Review (MVR)
  • Drug and alcohol tests

  • Ability to comprehend and follow road maps, signage, and written and verbal instructions to ensure an effective travel experience for customers.

Responsibilities

  • Drive a 26-passenger bus in a safe and efficient manner through various traffic and road conditions.
  • Aid passengers relative to boarding and various information needs.
  • Complete various reports concerning travel destinations, travel mileage, passenger counts, vehicle condition, and maintenance needs.
  • Maintain an effective level of service and communication with passengers and program support staff to ensure quality customer service.
  • Assist customers and chaperone as needed during trips.
  • Fuel a vehicle at commercial and City-owned fueling sites.
  • Maintain vehicle cleanliness.
