About The Position

Provide support to students who require additional assistance during transportation and serve as a substitute bus driver when needed. Ensure safe and timely transport of students along designated routes in accordance with established schedules.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent education and experience.
  • No more than 6 points on driving record.
  • Able to successfully complete and utilize courses in first aid techniques.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must have and maintain a Michigan driver's license.
  • Must be able to obtain a Commercial Driver's License, class B designation with C, P and S endorsements, and pass the air brakes test, before the end of probationary period.
  • Good driving record at time of hire and throughout the term of employment.
  • Ability to work in a friendly manner with co-workers, students and parents.
  • Ability to read and understand maps.
  • Ability to pass State Bus Driver Skill Test, State Bus Driver Written Test, Department of Transportation physical including drug test, and MDE Basic Training Program.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
  • The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints.
  • The employee has direct responsibility for the safety and well-being of others.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students in wheelchairs on and off the vehicle and secure wheelchairs on the bus.
  • Manage student behavior problems.
  • Position students.
  • Lift students.
  • Restrain students as necessary, consistent with training.
  • Monitor conduct of students.
  • Assist students with other needs as identified.
  • Communicate in an appropriate fashion with students, parents and employees.
  • Clean and disinfect vehicle – including sweeping, washing, mopping and cleaning exterior of vehicle.
  • Substitute for bus driver. Bus driver responsibilities include but are not limited to pre- and post-trip inspections, planning routes, fueling the bus and many of the responsibilities listed for Attendants.
  • Administer first aid.
  • Maintain written records.
  • Load and unload equipment, materials, etc.
  • Regular and predictable in-person attendance is required for this position.
  • Various other related duties as assigned.
