About The Position

The Centre for Information Resilience (CIR) is seeking a Burmese Translator to support the Myanmar Witness project. This project collects, analyzes, verifies, and archives evidence related to human rights incidents and violence in Myanmar. The translator will be responsible for producing high-quality Burmese translations of analytical reports and other project materials, ensuring accuracy and cultural relevance. The role involves translating content between English and Burmese, adapting website content, and collaborating with the project team to ensure accurate and timely delivery of translated materials.

Requirements

  • Native or near-native proficiency in Burmese (Myanmar Language).
  • Proven track record of Burmese translations.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and PDF editing tools.
  • Prior experience conducting translations about research focused on conflict trends and incidents in Myanmar and/or Southeast Asia.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with website management, especially content upload.
  • Demonstrable experience supporting CSOs working in the Myanmar context.

Responsibilities

  • Writing high-quality Burmese translations of analytical reports and other analytical products developed by the Myanmar Witness investigative team on conflict incidents and trends in Myanmar, adhering to CIR's and MW’s style guides.
  • Translate content between English and Burmese (Myanmar language), and vice versa.
  • Translate and adapt website content, visual assets, infographics, presentations, reports, training materials and multimedia materials, as required.
  • Working closely with the Investigations Manager/ Editor, Project Coordinator and Social Media and Website Manager to understand translation requirements and timelines for analytical products.
  • Working closely with the Investigations Manager/ Editor, Project Coordinator and Social Media and Website Manager to upload Burmese versions of analytical reports to the CIR website, ensuring the formatting is correct.
  • Provide ad hoc translation support for website content and other project materials as required.
  • Working with relevant members of the project team, such as the Lead Investigator and other investigators, or members from the Social Media Team, if there is any confusion regarding the content of analytical products being translated in order to ensure accurate translations.
  • Working closely with the Social Media and Website Manager and Project Coordinator, who will coordinate team members to review your translations to ensure they align with the Burmese context and coordinate the provision of guidance on this where needed.
  • Working closely with and reporting to the Social Media and Website Manager and Project Coordinator to flag any concerns, and also update on progress delivering tasks.
