About The Position

This position serves as the Bureau Chief of Meat and Poultry Inspection, responsible for highly responsible managerial functions in determining policy for the Bureau. The role involves serving as a full-line supervisor, directing program budget preparation, and controlling appropriation expenditures. Extensive liaison work with the United States Department of Agriculture meat inspection program officials is required. The Bureau Chief will provide information on program achievements, objectives, requirements, and goals to various groups and attend professional conferences to stay updated on innovations in the meat and poultry inspection field. Other duties as required or assigned are also part of this role.

Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college.
  • Requires prior experience equivalent to four years of progressively responsible administrative experience.
  • Of the four years' experience required above, two must be in a supervisor capacity.
  • Requires the successful completion of an agency approved meat and poultry inspection training program.
  • Requires completion of a name-based background screening and self-disclosure of criminal history.
  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties.
  • Requires appropriate, valid driver’s license.
  • Overnight and out of state travel may be required.
  • Requires ability to attend seminars, conferences, and trainings to stay current on methods, tools, ideologies, or other industry related topics relevant to the job duties.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefers four (4) years of supervisory experience in a meat and poultry inspection or related field.
  • Prefers three (3) years of experience working with state and federal laws, rules and regulations pertaining to animal and poultry disease control and eradication, or the slaughter, processing and storage of meat and poultry.
  • Prefers three (3) years of experience with establishing and implementing regulatory policies.
  • Prefers three (3) years of experience with managing and the implementation of a program budget.
  • Prefers two (2) years of experience developing and managing a major agency program.
  • Prefers one (1) year of experience with legislation and rulemaking.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the Bureau Chief of Meat and Poultry Inspection, performing highly responsible managerial functions in determining policy for the Bureau.
  • Serves as full line supervisor.
  • Directs program budget preparation and controls appropriation expenditures for the Bureau.
  • Performs extensive liaison work with the United States Department of Agriculture meat inspection program officials.
  • Provides information concerning program achievements, objectives, requirements, and goals by speaking and communicating to civic, industry, regulatory, and agriculture groups.
  • Attends professional conferences to keep abreast of innovations in the meat and poultry inspection field.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably with the scope of the duties enumerated above.
