About The Position

This position involves driving a bulk feed truck to transport feed in bulk form to and from specified destinations. When not driving, the individual will perform elevator duties. Key responsibilities include operating the truck in compliance with state, federal regulations, and company policies, conducting daily pre- and post-trip inspections, and verifying product against shipping papers. The driver is responsible for loading or observing the loading of compartments, computing and recording product weight to maintain legal limits, and driving the truck to its destination. The role requires the ability to shift a manual transmission and operate foot pedals, confirm delivery locations, and safely operate a power auger to deliver product to customers. Administrative tasks include preparing receipts for loads and recording delivery information. The driver must maintain telephone contact with a supervisor for instructions, clean compartments and the power auger after each delivery, and ensure auger equipment is in good operating order, scheduling preventive maintenance and repairs with the Maintenance Department. Additionally, the role supports company Safety/Environmental/Quality/HR program policies, adheres to all regulations and procedures, provides excellent customer service, and maintains a clean, orderly, and safe workstation. Other related tasks or Elevator duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • High School or Equivalent
  • Commercial Driver’s License Class A required
  • Knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations and the U. S. Department of Transportation regulations governing safe driving, hours of service, inspection, and maintenance.
  • Ability to maneuver vehicles at varying speeds in difficult situations, such as tight corners, inclement weather, busy commercial areas, high pedestrian and vehicle traffic, and tight loading/unloading areas.
  • Ability to sit and remain alert while driving for an aggregate period of up to 14 hours.
  • Ability to shift a manual transmission and operate foot pedals.
  • Ability to enter and exit vehicle’s cab at least 6-10 times a day (Cab floor level is generally 36 to 66 inches above ground level, with entry and exit achieved with the assistance of various configurations of steps and handholds; also require occasional bending, twisting, climbing, squatting, crouching, and balancing).
  • Ability to climb on the bulk trailer to open/close compartments (Trailer sides are generally 40 to 66 inches above ground level. Climbing is achieved with the assistance of various configurations of steps and handholds, also requires occasional bending, twisting, and crouching).
  • Must be able to hook/unhook various commercial vehicle combinations, manually lower and raise landing gear, operate the fifth wheel release lever, lock and release pintle-hooks, attach and release safety chains, open and close cargo doors, raise and lower hydraulic trailers, climb in and out of vehicle, fuel vehicles, and check engine and hydraulic oil and coolant levels.

  • Must meet or exceed the medical standards of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations and the U.S. Department of Transportation.
  • Must satisfactorily pass a company mandated physical, and U. S. Department of Transportation or company mandated drug and/or alcohol tests.

Responsibilities

  • Drives in accordance with state, federal regulations and company policies.
  • Performs daily pre- and post-trip inspections on trucks and equipment such as tires, lights, brakes, fuel oil, water, etc.
  • Verifies product against shipping papers and then loads or observes loading of compartments and computes and records weight of product in compartments to maintain legal limits.
  • Drives truck to destination according to directions given.
  • Able to shift a manual transmission and operate foot pedals.
  • Confirms exact location of delivery and safely operates power auger to deliver product to customer.
  • Prepares receipts for loads picked up and records delivery information consistent with company standards.
  • Maintains telephone contact with supervisor and/or contact person at yard to receive delivery instructions.
  • Cleans compartments and power auger after each delivery.
  • Assures auger equipment is in good operating order and schedules preventive maintenance and repairs with the Maintenance Department.
  • Helps support and ensure compliance with company Safety/Environmental/Quality/HR program policies and procedures.
  • Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures, instruction, and all safety requirements.
  • Provides a “Customer Service” attitude when interacting with internal and external customers while accomplishing work, production, and achieving quality standards.
  • Maintains a clean, orderly, and safe workstation/environment at all times.
  • Performs other related tasks or Elevator duties as assigned.
