About The Position

Reporting directly to the Barge, Bulk & Drumming Manager, the Bulk Shift Lead oversees daily bulk operations, ensuring tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all procedures. This role provides hands-on training, supports readiness, and communicates issues to management while promoting a strong safety and quality culture.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED required.
Minimum 3 years of experience as a bulk operator or a similar role required.
Minimum 6 months of computer experience accessing networks, accessing files, inputting or modifying data, and printing files required.
Able to work on top of tanks up to 70 feet in height.
Able to work in ambient temperatures (high and low) and various climates/weather.
Able to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and other non-standard hours as needed.
Able to change elevation using ramps, stairs, and ladders.
Able to stand and walk for extended periods (e.g., greater than one hour).
Able to independently lift up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis during shift.

Nice To Haves

Position-specific vocational education, training, or certification preferred.
Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred.
At least 1 year of experience in a leadership role preferred.
At least 6 months of experience working in a manufacturing or warehouse environment preferred.
At least 6 months of experience operating an Ottawa/yard truck preferred.

Responsibilities

Perform the duties and responsibilities of a Bulk Operator I-III.
Lead daily bulk operations to ensure tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions (WIs), and regulatory requirements.
Ensure all operational tasks are performed to quality standards, meeting customer and regulatory expectations, with proper documentation and adherence to procedures.
Review shipping schedules and verify all required documentation is complete, accurate, and submitted to support outbound and inbound product movements.
Monitor tank levels and temperatures to prevent spills, contaminations, and for scheduling incoming inventory.
Maintain accurate and legible data logs, including but not limited to time, weights, temperatures, and tank gauges.
Accurately measure product levels in tanks using appropriate gauging tools and techniques.
Operate powered industrial equipment safely and competently, including but not limited to forklifts and Ottawas/yard trucks.
Model and promote a strong safety culture by following all site, departmental, and company safety policies; identifying hazards; and proactively addressing unsafe behaviors or conditions.
Support and enforce compliance with the Coast Guart, Federal Rail Association (FRA), Department of Transportation (DOT), and environmental regulations related to the handling of bulk chemicals via truck, rail, barge, and tank transfer operations.
Provide training and daily guidance to operators, support skill development, job readiness, and adherence to standard work practices.
Coach, mentor, and hold team members accountable to established performance, safety, and conduct expectations in coordination with leadership.
Escalate operational, safety, quality, and personnel issues to the appropriate parties for quick resolution.
Communicate safety concerns, quality issues, production delays, or staffing needs to leadership and support resolution efforts.
Participate in operational investigations and incident reviews.
Participate and assist in audits by providing accurate documentation, answering questions, and demonstrating compliance with operational and safety procedures.
Support the technical troubleshooting efforts to resolve issues involving pumps, valves, controls, or transfer systems.
Read and interpret operational documentation, including but not limited to pump logs and MSDS sheets.
Identify abnormal process or equipment conditions and respond according to established procedures to ensure safety, prevent product loss, and maintain operational integrity; escalate abnormal conditions to the appropriate parties.
Utilize basic arithmetic to perform operational calculations, including volumes, weights, flow rates, and conversions needed for transfers and sampling.
Utilize Microsoft Office and digital tools for effective communication, reporting, scheduling, and documentation.
Read, understand, and comply with Good Manufacturing Practices and all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Work Instructions (WIs).
Participate in the review and creation of departmental SOPs, WIs, Instructional References (PCIRs), and Forms (PCs).
Perform autonomous maintenance, including cleaning, inspecting, lubricating, and tightening to maintain equipment base condition.
Keep equipment and work area clean and organized.
Comply with company compliance training program.
Lead or support continuous improvement activities through established methods.
Maintain housekeeping requirements.
Maintain 5S (i.e., sort, set in order, shine, standardize, sustain) standards.
Follow all safety, environmental, and quality policies, procedures, and standards.
Understand and adhere to all task, departmental, site, and company safety rules or standards.
Assist in maintaining a safe work environment.
Comply with all customer, regulatory, and quality requirements in the performance of all tasks as set forth in the company’s policies and procedures.
Keep equipment and work area clean and organized.
Support efforts to implement and maintain the Responsible Care 14001 (RC14001)/Environment, Health, Safety, & Sustainability (EHS&S) management system.
Adhere to all Environmental, Health, Safety, Security Requirements covered under Local State and Federal Regulations.
Follow all RC14001 guiding principles, policies, procedures and other requirements.
Maintain Hazardous waste in accordance with all Local, State and Federal Regulations.
Adhere to all DOT, IATA and IMDG hazardous materials or dangerous goods regulations.
Other duties as required.
