About The Position

Prepare batches of gravy ingredients, and/or super-micros for the kitchen per the approved formulas for the production run. This role involves reading and interpreting batching sheets, staging ingredients, cleaning totes, and accurately recording production data. The operator must ensure ingredients are inspected for quality and foreign materials, and perform weighing and labeling of totes according to the production schedule. General cleaning of the gravy room, filtration system, and dry ingredient area is also required. The position emphasizes teamwork, adherence to Simmons Operating Systems principles, and performing other duties as necessary to support business objectives.

Requirements

  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Machine Operation preferred.
  • Manufacturing or warehouse industry experience.
  • Experienced within a manufacturing/process environment with knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Operator will need to physically move bags of ingredients and totes weighing from 40 - 60 pounds.
  • Steel toed shoes, Ear Plugs, Hair Net, Safety glasses.

Responsibilities

  • Read and accurately interpret batching sheets and other production documents to determine the order and quantity of ingredients.
  • Stage ingredients to be batched and clean totes to contain the batches.
  • Accurately record production-related data including lot numbers, supplier for each ingredient, batching date code, and plan number.
  • Inspect each ingredient bag for condition, foreign material, grain lumps, off color, off odor, infestation, or expired materials.
  • Perform batching, weighing each ingredient per the card into tote, labeling tote and staging tote.
  • Ensure the operator stays 15 batches ahead according to the production schedule.
  • Conduct general cleaning of area including maintenance of gravy room, filtration system and dry ingredient area.
  • Vacuum or wipe clean all totes prior to batching gravies.
  • Cover unused ingredients to prevent contamination and tape opened bags shut, dating and initialing each one.
  • Participate as a member of the Team, fostering strong cohesiveness and accepting responsibility to identify and resolve issues.
  • Maintain familiarity with Simmons’ established operating systems and understand the responsibility to support these systems.
