About The Position

WSP is initiating a search for a Full-Time Early Career Building Technology Systems for their Houston, TX office. This role involves projects with the Property & Buildings Team, contributing to a growing organization that meets client objectives and solves challenges. The position offers local technical assistance for the design, development, building, testing, and inspecting of smart building projects in both public and private sectors. Tasks include assisting with research, design, concept development, installation, operation, maintenance, and optimal integration of intelligent technologies using a converged network approach. The role also involves systems that make predictive and automated decisions impacting building capabilities such as access control, acoustics, audio systems, security, and video surveillance. The position requires generating accurate and concise documentation and ensuring responsibilities are met with high-quality standards for design, safety, and functionality.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a closely related discipline.
  • 0 to 1 years of relevant post-education experience.
  • Excellent research skills with an analytical mindset.
  • Familiarity with process and concepts for smart building design and technology.
  • Familiarity with relevant installation and/or construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with others and expressing ideas effectively and professionally to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
  • Familiarity with discipline-specific design software (i.e., Revit, AutoCAD, CAM).
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
  • Ability to work in the United States immediately.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from physical work sites, surveys, blueprints, schematics, data, technical drawings, flow diagrams, computer-generated reports, and other matrices for project development, design, and installation.
  • Perform basic professional building technology work, including research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, equipment, resources, layout, usage, and systems to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, codes, and installation or operating permits.
  • Perform routine building technology functions and provide entry-level technical assistance on design requirements, load calculations, and operating strategies for proper equipment and systems installation and functioning according to specifications.
  • Assist with verifying site characteristics and providing basic technical assistance on design, installation, and integration issues for smart buildings using a converged network approach, AV/telecommunications, and intelligent systems.
  • Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation and specifications using electronic systems, drawings, diagrams, illustrations, spreadsheets, and reports.
  • Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures, including location data, statistical documentation, studies, and surveys.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
