About The Position

We are seeking a dedicated and flexible educator to join our team as a Building Substitute Teacher. This is a full-time, school-based position for an educator who will report to the school daily and serve as a consistent member of our instructional team. The ideal candidate is passionate about supporting student learning, maintaining a positive school culture, and ensuring continuity of instruction across classrooms and grade levels. The Building Substitute Teacher is responsible for providing classroom coverage during teacher absences, implementing lesson plans, facilitating engaging learning experiences, and maintaining a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment. When coverage is not needed, the Building Substitute Teacher may provide instructional support to students, assist with small-group interventions, collaborate with teachers, and support school-wide initiatives as assigned. As a valued member of the school community, the Building Substitute Teacher works closely with teachers, school leaders, support staff, students, and families to promote academic success and positive student outcomes. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong classroom management skills, adaptability, professionalism, effective communication, cultural competence, and a commitment to fostering meaningful relationships with students while supporting their academic and social-emotional development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; degree in Education or a related field preferred
  • Pennsylvania Instructional Certification PK–4, PK–8, 4–8, 7–12, or eligibility to obtain certification in Pennsylvania
  • Previous teaching, substitute teaching, or classroom experience preferred
  • Strong classroom management skills and the ability to maintain a positive, structured learning environment across a variety of grade levels and subject areas
  • Ability to effectively implement lesson plans, adapt to different instructional settings, and support student learning during teacher absences
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Flexibility, reliability, and professionalism with the ability to respond to changing school needs and assignments
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with students, families, colleagues, and school leaders
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive, equitable, and culturally responsive learning environment that values diversity and promotes belonging for all students
  • Proficiency with educational technology and a willingness to learn and utilize school-based instructional platforms and tools
  • Passion for supporting student academic achievement, social-emotional development, and overall school success
  • Must complete and submit background clearances and paperwork prior to your start date.

Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the school daily as a consistent member of the instructional team and providing classroom coverage across grade levels and subject areas as needed
  • Implementing teacher lesson plans and facilitating engaging learning experiences that maintain instructional continuity during staff absences
  • Creating and maintaining safe, supportive, and productive learning environments that promote student engagement, respect, and academic success
  • Utilizing effective classroom management strategies to support positive student behavior and uphold school expectations
  • Providing academic support to individual students and small groups when classroom coverage is not needed
  • Monitoring student participation and progress, documenting important information, and communicating relevant updates to classroom teachers and school leaders
  • Collaborating with teachers, administrators, and support staff to ensure a seamless educational experience for students
  • Supporting school-wide programs, activities, duties, and initiatives as assigned
  • Building positive relationships with students, staff, and families while fostering a school culture that values inclusion, collaboration, and lifelong learning
  • Demonstrating flexibility, professionalism, and adaptability while supporting the evolving needs of the school community
