Building Substitute Teacher
About The Position
ACCEL Schools is hiring a Building Substitute Teacher at Lorain Preparatory Academy in Lorain, Ohio. The role supports the school’s goal of providing a superior, individualized college-preparatory education to students from early elementary through eighth grade. The teacher is expected to bring the curriculum to life, foster a positive classroom environment, and prioritize student learning and social-emotional development. Lorain Preparatory Academy is an award-winning public charter school serving the Lorain community for over 15 years. It is part of ACCEL Schools, a network of public charter schools serving students across the United States. The position involves planning and delivering instruction, supporting students’ academic and social-emotional growth, maintaining records, managing classroom behavior, and collaborating with colleagues and families.
Requirements
- Active and current State of Ohio teaching license in the appropriate content area.
- Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field.
- High comfort working in a growth-focused coaching environment involving frequent observations, debriefs, action planning, and progress monitoring.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to properly manage confidential information.
- Ability to supervise students of various ages in different school settings, including playgrounds and cafeterias.
- Ability to pass federal and state criminal background checks.
- Experience working within an urban environment.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and deliver lesson plans, modifying them as needed during the school year.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students.
- Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development.
- Use research-based best practices in daily planning and classroom instruction.
- Manage student behavior in the classroom.
- Create a positive classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Use school-approved curricula that reflect students’ diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds.
- Implement school-wide culture expectations and norms.
- Communicate and meet with families regarding their child’s academic and social-emotional growth.
- Incorporate technology skills into daily classroom practice to support learning.
- Participate in planning and implementing non-instructional activities as needed.
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with colleagues.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
