About The Position

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Building Structures and MEP Lead to join their team in Austin, Texas. This role will support a major, high-profile transit program, working in a fully integrated delivery environment on a complex rail corridor project. The lead will be responsible for the design and delivery of station packages, ensuring the effective integration of MEP systems design and providing technical leadership across multidisciplinary teams in a safety-critical rail environment. The position involves oversight of traction power, station infrastructure, and passenger-focused design elements.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of experience in Building MEP Systems engineering within transportation or infrastructure sectors
  • BSc / MSc in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Texas, or ability to obtain reciprocity within 6 months
  • Proven experience delivering transit stations or complex vertical infrastructure (e.g., depots, rail stations, public-use facilities)
  • Strong understanding of integrated station systems, including electrical systems, safety systems, and passenger environments
  • Demonstrated experience in design management and multidisciplinary coordination, particularly across MEP and Buildings Systems interfaces
  • Experience working in client-facing or embedded delivery environments on large programs
  • Strong knowledge of codes, standards, and safety considerations associated with rail and public infrastructure systems
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage the delivery of MEP, building systems and structural design across multiple station and ancillary facilities packages
  • Oversee key design elements including: Right-of-Way (ROW) lighting study and design and power distribution, Fire & Life Safety systems and code compliance, Pedestrian modelling and station capacity planning, Structural design
  • Provide technical leadership and integration across multidisciplinary teams, ensuring alignment between architecture, structures, rail systems, and utilities
  • Act as a key interface within the client-embedded delivery team, supporting real-time decision-making and collaboration – conveying messages to the MEP and structural designers
  • Support utility coordination, third-party interfaces, and permitting activities within complex urban right-of-way environments
  • Ensure the delivery of safe, reliable, and compliant station environments, aligned with industry standards and transit design best practice
  • Support safety assurance, certification, and commissioning activities for station systems and infrastructure
  • Contribute to the delivery of high-quality, passenger-focused station environments, supporting accessibility, usability, and urban integration
  • Support design management functions including scope, schedule, risk, quality, and value engineering
  • Mentor and develop engineers, fostering a high-performing and collaborative team environment
