About The Position

The Custodian performs unskilled/semi-skilled custodial duties necessary for the upkeep of City buildings.

Requirements

  • High School education or GED preferred
  • 1 year experience in janitorial and building maintenance
  • ISSA Basic Certified Custodial Technician or the ability to obtain within 6 months of initial employment.
  • Valid Colorado driver’s license and a safe driving record
  • Must pass the Criminal Justice information and Services (CJIS) background check prior to start date. Candidate is also subject to a fingerprinting check and a 4 panel drug screening.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and relevant job experience may be substituted.
  • Working knowledge of custodial tasks, and surface cleaning techniques
  • Basic knowledge of: Cleaning chemicals and Maintaining equipment
  • Communication - Basic skills needed to communicate with co-workers, citizens, and contractors.
  • Mechanical - Basic skills required to operate a floor buffing machine, auto scrubber, carpet cleaning equipment and vacuum cleaners.

Responsibilities

  • Performs general cleaning, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and polishing furniture.
  • Empties trash containers and picks up debris.
  • Washes glass surfaces that may include windows (interior & exterior), doors, and desktops.
  • Operates floor buffer, auto scrubber, vacuum, and carpet cleaning equipment.
  • Informs supervisor of hazardous and unsafe conditions of City buildings.
  • Sets-up various City facilities for meetings, which includes, setting up tables and chairs, and assisting with audio/visual equipment as specified by room set-up request.
  • Uses city vehicles to pick up/drop off supplies and runs errands as requested by City officials, management staff, and supervisor.
  • Ensures building security by checking to see all doors are locked and the building is clear each night through visual inspection. Also, notifies supervisor of any lights or locks that need to be replaced or repaired.
  • Dusts the outside of air conditioning and heating vents.
  • Conducts facility inspections with supervisor to ensure level of service agreements are being met by staff and contractors.
  • Replace soap and paper products, as needed.
  • Responds to calls for bloodborne cleanup.
  • Responds to emergency clean up calls.
  • Cleans and sanitizes locker rooms including showers, restroom areas, sinks, counter surfaces, urinals, and toilets.
  • Conducts other related duties as assigned.
  • Responds to requests such as hanging pictures, moving furniture, or replacing light bulbs.
  • Shovels snow and applies ice-melt to City walkways and corridors.
