About The Position

Reporting to and under general supervision of the Facilities Engineering Manager - Infrastructure and Projects, with additional lead work direction provided from other members of the Facilities Management team, and the Supervising Building Service Engineer, the Building Service Engineer (BSE) performs maintenance and repair work on a range of heating, ventilating, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, refrigeration, air conditioning, and water systems needed in support of daily operations and special events at Sonoma State University. The incumbent ensures all heat, ventilation and air conditioning, fire notification, emergency and elevator systems are fully operational; and meet all applicable code requirements. The BSE provides a safe, fully functioning environment in a fiscally responsible manner for the university.

Requirements

  • Two years of journey-level experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of boiler, heating, ventilating, refrigeration, and air conditioning equipment systems or the equivalent combination of formal course work in mechanical / electrical controls technology with hands-on experience.
  • Beginning proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
  • Must successfully complete a pre-placement exam.
  • Must possess and/or obtain and thereafter maintain a California Driver’s License valid for the operation of any vehicle or equipment required to maintain and operate.
  • Evidence of degree(s) or certificate(s) and/or license(s) required at time of hire.
  • Reside in the State of California upon date of hire.
  • Background check must be completed satisfactorily.
  • Disclosure of final administrative or judicial decision determining commission of sexual harassment within the last 7 years (after meeting minimum qualifications and before offer of employment).
  • Sign a release form authorizing the release of information by current and/or former employers concerning any substantiated allegations of misconduct (if reaching final stages of application process).

Nice To Haves

  • On-site engineer for performances and events with the ability to work in a performing arts setting with a diverse variety of performers, campus departments, and their requests.
  • Knowledge of Google Suite.
  • Knowledge of computerized work control system.
  • Knowledge of building control systems.
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft.

Responsibilities
