Entry-Level Field Testing Technicians
About The Position
Intertek is seeking a Building Science Testing Technician to join their Building Science Solutions team in Hillside, Illinois. This role offers a career opportunity in the building enclosure testing industry. Intertek's Building and Construction division is a leader in architecture, engineering, and construction disciplines, providing innovative product and project solutions. Their services include assurance, testing, inspection, and consulting for new developments, existing assets, and facilities. The Building Science Solutions (BSS) group focuses on building enclosure consulting, commissioning, and field performance testing for both new construction and retrofit projects.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required
- General construction, carpentry, or construction testing experience
- Experience using power tools
- Technical competency to understand and communicate test procedures, specifications, and results and possess a mechanical aptitude
- Must be aware of, and adhere to, safety practices and policies to ensure your own safety, as well as the safety of others who may be affected by your actions at work
- Physical ability to lift 50 pounds or more, sit, stand, crouch, bend, climb stairs and ladders, crawl, push, pull, etc. as required to perform job duties
- Ability to follow directions and work with minimal supervision
- Ability to travel as business needs indicate - Up to 25% overnight/out of town
- Valid driver’s license and reliable driving record is required
Nice To Haves
- Degree in a technical field desired, or equivalent related experience
- Construction, glazing, roofing or similar general construction background
Responsibilities
- Perform a variety of testing, project specific observations and site assessment duties under direct supervision and/or from detailed controlled procedures.
- Operate testing equipment and conduct testing (i.e., air and water infiltration).
- Provide assessment of data through reporting.
- Work utilizing drawings, specifications and diagrams.
- Use specific methods to observe site activities and perform tasks.
- Make detailed observations and provide recommendations for improvements.
- Maintain detailed documentation and data from test results.
- Communicate effectively with client and project teams.
