The Nebraska State Historical Society is seeking an organized and detail-oriented individual to serve as the State Historic Preservation Office’s (SHPO) Historic Tax Incentive Coordinator. As a member of SHPO, this position serves as the State of Nebraska’s recognized expert and administrator of the Federal Historic Tax Credit, Nebraska Historic Tax Credit, and Valuation Incentive Program, and assist with other building reviews. The position will be accountable for reviewing applications, providing technical assistance on historic preservation to applicants, and communicating with National Park Services staff to maintain consistency between the state and federal historic tax credit programs. The Tax Incentive Coordinate is responsible for one of the most utilized programs with the SHPO. With that responsibility comes the opportunity to travel throughout the state to visit project sites, work with a wide range of applicants including seasoned developers, local governments, and small-town business owners, and have an impact on the development of educational materials that help improve and empower Nebraska’s historic preservation goals. The Nebraska State Historical Society (NSHS) is a statewide historical agency that connects people to the past through our library and research center, conservation facility, interpretive sites, collections, and the state archeology and historic preservation offices. NSHS’s mission is to “collect, preserve, and opens to all the histories we share.” The SHPO and its department programs strive to fulfill this mission by empowering Nebraskans to build and sustain culturally vibrant communities by connecting to the people, places, and points of pride that define our state.
