About The Position

The City of Roseville is looking for a Building Plans Examiner to join our Development Services team. This role involves reviewing construction documents for code compliance, collaborating with architects, engineers, contractors, developers, property owners, and other City departments to solve technical challenges, provide clear code guidance, and help projects successfully navigate the permitting process. The ideal candidate is technically curious, enjoys problem-solving, communicates well, and is committed to providing excellent customer service while maintaining building and life-safety standards.

Requirements

  • Building Plans Examiner I: One year of increasingly responsible building plan examination, architectural design, drafting, and/or inspection experience.
  • Building Plans Examiner I: Completion of thirty units from an accredited college or university with major course work in engineering, architecture or a related field. (Note: Possession of a valid I.C.C certificate as a Building Plans Examiner can substitute for the thirty units from an accredited college or university.)
  • Building Plans Examiner I: Possession of a valid I.C.C. certificate as a Building Plans Examiner is required within one year of appointment to the position.
  • Building Plans Examiner II: Two years of increasingly responsible building plan examination experience similar to that of a Building Plans Examiner I with the City of Roseville, which includes at least one (1) year as an I.C.C. certified Building Plans Examiner.
  • Building Plans Examiner II: Completion of thirty units from an accredited college or university with major course work in engineering, architecture or a related field. (Note: An additional one (1) year of experience performing as an I.C.C. certified Building Plans Examiner can substitute for the thirty units from an accredited college or university.)
  • Building Plans Examiner II: Possession of a valid I.C.C. certificate as a Building Plans Examiner by the date of appointment.

  • Background in architectural design, drafting, or engineering with interest in applying that experience to plan review.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, developers, property owners, and City staff to resolve code and design issues and identify code-compliant solutions.
  • Provide responsive, solution-oriented customer service by clearly communicating code requirements and helping applicants understand the path to code compliance.
  • Review residential and commercial construction documents for compliance with applicable building codes and City requirements.
