The Alma Mater Society (AMS) is the University of British Columbia’s (UBC) student society, and works to improve the academic, social and personal lives of the 56,000 UBC students at its Vancouver campus. The AMS also runs nine food and beverage outlets, a catering and conference operation, and the AMS Student Nest, providing on-campus employment opportunities and generating revenue that goes directly back into supporting the students at UBC. This is a permanent, part-time, hourly position working 20 hours per week, Monday to Thursday from 6:00 pm until 11:30 pm. The compensation is $23.00 per hour, with a discounted meal on shift and professional development opportunities. The Building Operations Maintenance Assistant will help support the upkeep of the AMS's state-of-the-art, 250,000 square foot facility. The Maintenance Assistant is responsible for the ongoing maintenance and repair of all venues and equipment in the Student Union Building (THE NEST) in compliance with AMS standards and procedures and regulatory legislation (e.g. Food Safe Standards, WHMIS). They provide day-to-day maintenance of the facility to keep all building fabric, fittings and equipment in good repair. This is a great position for those who are completing their education and have some experience in handy work or alternatively those who have industry experience and are looking for a single facility operation.
