About The Position

The Community Development Department is looking to fill its Building Official position and is seeking applicants who are looking for the opportunity to lead a responsive and customer service-oriented Building Division operation that challenges people’s perceptions about working with their local government. The City of Longwood is located in Seminole County, Florida and has a population of approximately 17,000 people over approximately 6 square miles. On average, the Building Division processes approximately 1,900 permits and completes over 5,000 inspections annually with a staff including an Inspector/Plans Examiner, a Building Inspector, two Permit Clerks, and administrative support from a Senior Administrative Assistant. Our mission has been to change that perception by being responsive, providing guidance before the first permit is even submitted for a project, and working to “get to yes” on difficult issues without compromising on safety and the codes and regulations that govern building construction. We are looking for a Building Official to help us maintain our positive relationship with our residents and development community and to be a key part of our Economic Development strategy while working with the other members of our experienced and cohesive Planning and Economic Development functions as well as our Engineering team in Public Works.

Requirements

Experience in leading a Building Division operation.
Customer service orientation.
Knowledge of safety and codes and regulations governing building construction.
Ability to work with Planning and Economic Development functions and Engineering team.
