Building Mechanical Engineer

Hargrove Engineers & ConstructorsColumbus, OH
Onsite

About The Position

This role is generally responsible for performing all aspects of complete designs for small and large mechanical engineering assignments, utilizing theoretical knowledge and practical design methods. The work will be performed under general supervision. Primary responsibilities include familiarity with and utilization of department design and drafting standards, understanding project scope, specifications, and design criteria upon assignment to a project task team, and providing on-site assistance during startup. The engineer will accomplish engineering activities such as stress analysis, construction specifications, material procurement specifications, calculations, and piping estimates. They will develop conceptual layouts and cost studies to determine the most efficient approach to engineering tasks, produce estimate-level preliminary designs and material take-offs, and create detailed design calculations and sketches for materials of construction. The role involves assisting the drafting group with layout and detailing problems, consulting with design leaders from other disciplines, and reviewing vendor and other discipline drawings for mechanical input. Designs should emphasize efficient use of construction materials, ease of construction, and meeting client expectations. The engineer will also check calculations made by others, advise senior engineering on design or scope changes, and assist in assembling scopes, drawings, and specifications for procurement inquiries. Developing construction specifications, reviewing fabrication drawings and construction submittents, performing fieldwork for data gathering and construction support, and providing technical guidance to less experienced personnel are also key duties. The position requires applying advanced engineering techniques to complex designs and developing small work-sharing packages for interoffice execution support.

  • Knowledge of application of piping supports and restraints.
  • Identification of need, application and specification of safety valves and devices to maintain the mechanical integrity of piping systems.
  • Identification of need, application and specification of steam traps and liquid drainers.
  • Estimating piping related construction quantities from conceptual documents.
  • Knowledge of other disciplines deliverable development to ensure coordination of design efforts.
  • Knowledge and application of company engineering design and CAD drafting standards.
  • Knowledge of the discipline specific methods, practices and techniques required to engineer, design and construct process and manufacturing projects.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Virtual team skills and cross divisional relationships are developed and able to provide interoffice execution support with general supervision.
  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
