About The Position

Info-Tech Research Group is seeking an experienced, hands-on Building Manager for its Toronto headquarters at 888 Yonge Street, a multi-tenant heritage building. This role will oversee day-to-day operations across the facility, working closely with tenants (Info-Tech Research Group, The Concert Hall, and a commercial real estate office), vendors, and service providers. The Building Manager will support standard business hours and occasional evening/weekend needs related to venue events, with most after-hours support managed remotely. A key aspect of the role involves careful attention to the preservation of protected architectural elements and compliance with heritage guidelines for this designated heritage property. The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, comfortable troubleshooting building systems, managing vendor relationships, and supporting live event operations.

Requirements

  • 5 to 10 years of experience in facilities or building management within a commercial environment.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience troubleshooting building systems.
  • Solid understanding of HVAC, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly for documentation and record-keeping.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and remain composed under pressure.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills — comfortable working with staff at all levels, external trades, and vendors.
  • High degree of self-direction and personal accountability.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a multi-tenant commercial building environment.
  • A background or formal training in engineering — mechanical, electrical, or building systems — is a strong asset.
  • Experience managing heritage or designated properties, with an understanding of the constraints and responsibilities that come with protected buildings.
  • Familiarity with the operational demands of entertainment or event venues.
  • Familiarity with basic IT infrastructure in an office environment.
  • Experience with facilities management or work order software.
  • Interest in live events, tech offices, or commercial real estate is considered an asset.
  • Appreciation for heritage properties and maintaining protected architectural elements within a designated heritage building.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day operation of all building systems, including HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and life safety.
  • Maintain accurate operational logs, inspection records, and compliance documentation.
  • Conduct regular building walkthroughs to identify and address maintenance issues proactively.
  • Oversee maintenance and basic servicing of kitchen equipment across multiple staff kitchenettes and the building's commercial kitchen, coordinating with specialized trades for major repairs.
  • Perform routine hands-on maintenance tasks (light fixture replacement, hardware installation, general repairs).
  • Serve as the primary facilities contact for all three building tenants: Info-Tech Research Group, The Concert Hall, and the commercial real estate office.
  • Coordinate building services around The Concert Hall's event schedule, including evening and weekend load-ins, performances, and venue turnovers.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to facilities requests from tenant staff and leadership across all three occupancies.
  • Balance competing tenant priorities and communicate proactively when shared systems or spaces are affected.
  • Manage the building's cleaning contractor, including scheduling, quality oversight, and ensuring service standards are consistently met across all tenant spaces.
  • Source, negotiate, and manage service contracts with external vendors and trades.
  • Monitor vendor performance and ensure work is completed on time, on budget, and to standard.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all facilities-related contractors and service providers.
  • Track and report on building operating costs against approved budgets.
  • Maintain organized records of maintenance activities, invoices, contracts, and warranties.
  • Support procurement of supplies, equipment, and materials.
  • Act as a liaison between the building and the internal IT team for infrastructure and connectivity needs.
  • Support space planning, office moves, and setup for events or team activities.
