About The Position

This is a part-time, non-benefited position. Only UND students are eligible to be hired in this position. The purpose of this position is to regulate and monitor the service, safety, and security of the Memorial Union. This role facilitates co-curricular and administrative programs of the Memorial Union and assists programs of non-university organizations that have contracted use of space. The Building Manager will also monitor events, including event set-ups, and work closely with Information and Event Set Up Assistants during evenings and weekends to provide frontline troubleshooting for event planning challenges or late equipment requests. The role involves identifying and resolving immediate operations issues in the building, potentially covering other Memorial Union service areas, and assisting Memorial Union administration with student staff training and development. The Building Manager will execute emergency procedures, open/close the Memorial Union, model appropriate behavior, and provide leadership for other student staff. This role fosters communication among student workers, creates a friendly atmosphere, and works with student staff to achieve a high level of customer service. The ability to be flexible and handle different situations with confidence and leadership is essential, as is the ability to manage onsite facility and customer problems, conflicts, and issues.

Requirements

  • Requires constant interaction with members of the university community and the general public.
  • Requires tone of firm-friendliness to enforce the rules and mission of the department and work efficiently and effectively with patrons and building staff.
  • Ability to conduct self in a manner that brings credit to the Memorial Union operations and the University.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including both evenings and rotating weekends.
  • Ability to attend all mandatory Building Manager staff training and meetings.
  • Be able to carry/move equipment/furniture/etc.
  • Successful completion of a Standard Criminal History Background Check.
  • In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the US and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.
  • This position does not support visa sponsorship for continued employment.
  • Only UND students are eligible to be hired in this position.

Responsibilities

  • Regulate and monitor service, safety, and security of the Memorial Union by walking rounds, responding to issues, and completing reports.
  • Facilitate the co-curricular and administrative programs of the Memorial Union and to assist the programs of non-university organizations that have contracted use of space.
  • Monitor events, including event set-ups.
  • Work closely with Information and Event Set UP Assistants during evenings and weekends to provide frontline troubleshooting for event planning challenges or late equipment requests as needed.
  • Identify and resolve immediate operations issues in the building.
  • Could include coverage of other Memorial Union service areas.
  • Could include assisting Memorial Union administration with student staff training and development.
  • Execute emergency procedures (such as building evacuations or medical emergencies).
  • Open/Close the Memorial Union.
  • Model appropriate behavior and provide leadership for other Memorial Union student staff.
  • Foster communication among student workers.
  • Create a friendly atmosphere in the Memorial Union for students, staff, and visitors, by building positive working relationships with UPD, Facilities/Operations, and other campus entities.
  • Work with student workers to achieve a high level of customer service.
  • Ability to be flexible and handle different situations with confidence and leadership.
  • Manage onsite facility and customer problems, conflicts, and issues.
