About The Position

Responsible for the overall safe, efficient, and economical operation and maintenance of the school building and grounds. This includes providing direct supervision and training of custodial personnel, performing minor maintenance on electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems, overseeing cleaning responsibilities, managing outdoor projects, ensuring equipment and facilities are in safe operating condition, providing security checks, preparing facilities for public functions or rentals, ordering supplies, and completing other assigned tasks.

Requirements

  • Valid state driver’s license – operator permit.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct supervision and training of all other custodial personnel, including setting schedules, assigning work tasks, and conducting evaluations in cooperation with the Director of Buildings and Grounds and the Building Principal.
  • Perform or cause to be performed minor tasks related to the complete operation of the electrical, plumbing, temperature control and of the mechanical systems.
  • Perform or assign to other custodial personnel, all tasks related to the entire cleaning responsibilities necessary to assure a clean facility.
  • Perform or cause to be performed all outdoor projects such as some snow removal, mowing, trimming, grounds repairs, playground equipment repair and maintenance, and playground inspections.
  • Ensure that all equipment and facilities are kept in safe efficient operating condition.
  • Provide security and general condition checks of the building.
  • Share weekend security checks of all school buildings on a rotating basis with other head custodians.
  • Make arrangements for the preparation of the facilities for public functions or for approved rental use and arrange for a custodial employee to be present during such use.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned by the Building Principal or Director of Buildings and Grounds.
  • Order all custodial and basic maintenance supplies subject to the approval of the Director of Buildings and Grounds.
