About The Position

Under the general supervision and direction of the Associate Director, SRWC Facility & Building Operations, the Building Manager is responsible for the overall operation of the Student Recreation and Wellness Center (SRWC) in the support and absence of full-time staff.  The Building Manager will assist in various technical and professional duties as assigned, to gain practical experience in the SRWC field.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled at California State University, Long Beach in at least six units and making satisfactory progress in related degree program.
  • This position requires a high level of skill and the ability to acquire substantial technical competence.
  • Applicant must be able to take initiative, be responsible and correct errors as needed.
  • The incumbent is responsible for becoming thoroughly familiar with all sections of the current CSULB Campus Regulations and SRWC/University Student Union Operating Procedures Manual.
  • Must be a quick learner with the ability to assess situations and make sound, independent decisions.
  • Ability to perform complex tasks without detailed supervision.
  • Must also have strong presentation skills and the ability to speak, write, and effectively communicate fluently in English.
  • Good public relations skills are a must.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment
  • Additional certifications and trainings may be required and must be completed within the first 30 days of employment.
  • Ability to interpret and carry out SRWC/University Student Union policy as it relates to the activities of individuals or groups utilizing the facility.
  • Position requires that the incumbent be patient, trustworthy, dedicated, and responsive to student needs.
  • Employee must have strong customer service skills, be adaptable to last-minute changes and have the ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people and personalities.
  • Must be available to work evenings and weekends during the academic year.
  • Employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally move or lift up to 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience and/or specialized education is preferred for employment.
  • Knowledge of audio-visual equipment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Enforce and ensure compliance with established SRWC/University Student Union policies and procedures.
  • Oversee the SRWC facilities in the support and absence of full-time staff.
  • Monitor all events and patrol the inside/outside of the building, reporting any activities that may affect events occurring inside and outside the building.
  • Open and/or secure the overall building at designated operating hours (i.e., unlock and lock the building, secure office and departmental areas, turn various systems off and set building alarms as assigned).
  • Assist with the opening and closing of all point-of-sale operations, which includes securing equipment and cash bags.
  • Assists with membership software applications as needed in order to service members in all areas of the facility.
  • Review daily setup worksheets to ensure that all events are set-up according to plan.
  • Responsible for the set-up, monitoring, and breakdown of reservations/events.
  • Communicate with staff via two-way radio throughout shift.
  • Prepare a written report and/or log of each shift or event worked, and e-mail report to a provided distribution list.
  • Conduct inventory of specified storages within facility.
  • Provide breaks and assist student staff when necessary.
  • Make frequent rounds of the facility and communicate with facilities staff regarding issues relating to restrooms, lockers, faucets, urinals, non-functioning lighting, and take appropriate action to address situations needing immediate attention.
  • Conduct traffic counts of assigned common building areas on an hourly basis, complete assigned shift checklists, and process appropriate paperwork throughout shift.
  • Reset and clean tables and chairs in all lounge and eating areas according to corresponding diagrams.
  • Is familiar with all AV equipment and room set-ups and assists facilities staff when necessary.
  • Troubleshoots audio-visual equipment as necessary.
  • Attend AV training as assigned.
  • Regularly check to see that all events are functioning normally (i.e., proper room set-up, lighting, temperature, audio-visual equipment, etc.)
  • Prepare clear and concise electronic shift reports regarding events, issues with staff, guests or services, conditions of the building, building infrastructure, and furnishings.
  • Reports will include actions taken to address issues along with additional information so building management can start problem solving as soon as possible.
  • Is the first responder to injury/incidents within the building and is responsible for preparing the incident report to submit to supervisor for review.
  • Conduct tours of the SRWC when scheduled and necessary.
  • Model appropriate behavior and provide leadership for other SRWC student staff.
  • Serve as a resource to the SRWC. Is familiar with the SRWC and campus.
  • Work on special projects as assigned.
