About The Position

Under the direct supervision of the Facilities and Grounds Manager, the Building Maintenance worker will perform journeyman levels of various building trades, and other duties as assigned. This is an on-campus position as employees are essential in order to provide a fully on-campus, residential college experience for our students and the community. This position is subject to the successful completion of a criminal background check.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Five years related building maintenance.
  • General knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry and locksmith trade.
  • Ability to read blueprints and maintain accurate logbooks as required.
  • Knowledge of power tools.
  • Valid driver's license
  • Valid hoisting license, or willing to obtain.

Responsibilities

  • Perform minor plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and general building repairs to campus facilities, equipment, fixtures, and furnishings.
  • Respond to routine and emergency maintenance requests generated by supervisors, the work order system, and the Merrimack College Police Department during regular business hours, evenings, weekends, and other assigned shifts.
  • Assist with snow and ice removal, grounds maintenance, furniture and equipment deliveries, and event setup and breakdown as needed.
  • Monitor, inspect, and reset building systems and components, including fire alarm systems, HVAC controls, lighting, and electrical systems, to ensure safe and reliable operation.
  • Maintain the appearance and functionality of campus buildings by performing litter and graffiti removal, making minor repairs and adjustments, and providing custodial support as needed.
  • Identify maintenance deficiencies and initiate work orders or notify supervisors of repairs requiring additional time, specialized trades, or outside services.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment while following all applicable safety procedures, departmental policies, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned to support departmental and institutional operations.
