About The Position

This position exists to maintain all facility systems in a complete and thorough journeyman like manner; using proper procedures, tools and equipment; perform routine and preventative maintenance as required for plumbing systems, mechanical and HVAC systems and architectural features and components; and repair systems and components damaged by abuse or normal wear and tear to maintain the facility functions and therapeutic environment. The Division of Facilities Management (DFM) is a customer-driven support organization responsible for operating, maintaining and managing the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) facilities and campuses according to all applicable standards. This is done in a manner that promotes the CDHS mission of providing a safe, sanitary and effective environment for clients, youth, residents, patients, consumers and staff and enhances the quality of life in CDHS facilities, campuses and in the surrounding neighborhoods. These services include the day-to-day facility maintenance and operational needs of buildings, grounds, custodial and fleet services. South District services the following facilities: Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Pueblo (CMHHIP), Pueblo Regional Center (PRC), Department of Corrections (DOC) Division of Youth Services (Zeb Pike, Spring Creek and Pueblo Youth Services Center), and Veteran’s Community Living Centers in the Southern District, as needed.

Requirements

  • Applicants must have four years of building maintenance experience as it relates to this position.
  • This experience should include general maintenance and repairs in the areas of plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC, general locksmithing etc.
  • A full pre-employment criminal background check will be conducted as part of the selection process as this position is deemed to have direct contact with vulnerable persons.
  • Felony convictions, conviction of crimes of moral turpitude, or convictions of misdemeanors related to job duties may disqualify you from being considered for this position.
  • Must be willing to submit and pass a full background check.
  • Must be willing to submit and pass Motor Vehicle Checks.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid non-restricted Colorado driver’s license throughout employment in this position.
  • Out-of-State Driver’s License holders must obtain a valid, non-restricted Colorado Driver’s License within 30 days of employment start date.
  • Must be willing to receive an annual influenza vaccination or provide a document for a medical exemption or a letter for religious exemption.
  • Must successfully pass a Tuberculosis (TB) test.
  • Will be required to work various hours for coverage, weather related issues and essential/emergency services outside of normal business hours.
  • Must be available to respond to after hours calls via call back to perform essential and/or emergency services without delay and/or interruption.
  • Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must disclose the information on the application and provide an explanation why the prior termination or resignation should not disqualify the applicant from the current position.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general routine maintenance functions in all Southern District Facilities.
  • Respond to work requests phoned into the maintenance dispatch desk during normal operating and after hours.
  • Inspect the facilities and generate work orders for necessary repairs such as burnt out lights, leaking faucets, loose hinges and all types of damage caused by patients and staff.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, maintain, adjust and make minor repairs to various types of locks i.e. penal, residential, and commercial grade locks.
  • Snake clogged sanitary lines using appropriate equipment, to include but not limited to unplugging stools, urinals, sinks, floor drains and main sewer lines.
  • Repair residential, institutional, and penal fixtures i.e. dripping faucets, running water closets, and urinals, to include but not limited to replacement of washers, seats, traps, valves, supply lines. P-traps, handles, diaphragms, vacuum breaker, molded disk.
  • Perform electrical repair, replace ballast, replace lights, repair and replace light fixtures and replace light switches.
  • Secure / repair damaged windows caused by patients.
  • Adjust door hinges to allow doors to close properly, adjust door closures.
  • Repair damage to faculties finish and systems.
  • Repair walls, ceilings, roofs, floors and accentuated systems.
  • Replace flooring material and coverings, including floor tile, sheet goods, wall base and accessories, repair cabinet and counter tops to include millwork hardware.
  • Apply paint to walls, surfaces, doors, casings, caseworks, gym floors, mechanical room, handrails bollards, by spraying, brushing, rolling, parking lot striping in a professional and timely manner.
  • Perform routine and scheduled snow removal, also apply ice melt as needed.
  • Making sure work is done properly and to a high standard of excellence.
  • Assist other trades as necessary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Call Back applies when an eligible nonexempt employee is required to report to work before the start or after the end of a scheduled shift. An eligible nonexempt employee does not have to be on call eligible to receive call back pay. If there is no release from work between the call back hours and regular shift, it is considered a continuation of the shift and call back does not apply; instead, if applicable, the nonexempt employee may earn overtime or compensatory time. When a nonexempt employee is called back, they are entitled to a minimum of two (2) hours of their regular base pay (call back pay) or pay for the actual amount of time spent responding to the call, whichever is greater. Call back time is counted as work time.
