About The Position

This is a part-time position with the Carson City Public Works Department, not to exceed 1,039 hours per fiscal year (July 1 through June 30). The role involves performing a variety of custodial duties related to facility cleaning and maintenance. The position is expected to work swing shift, with hours varying from 4:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., approximately 14-20 hours per week. This recruitment is open continuously, and interested individuals are encouraged to apply immediately as hiring may occur early in the process. The recruitment will close without notice when a sufficient number of applicants are received or a hiring decision is made.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to a High School education or GED
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.
  • Ability to understand and apply ratios.
  • Safely using and maintaining hand and power tools related to the work.
  • Understanding and following oral and written directions.
  • Preparing basic records of work performed.
  • Performing general maintenance work, individually or as a member of a crew, in various areas, depending on the function.
  • Contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives and activities.
  • Ability to read and communicate with basic English skills.
  • Must be available to work on call, evenings, and weekends.
  • Must pass a background investigation and drug screen.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional cleaning experience is helpful
  • Hospitality industry experience is helpful

Responsibilities

  • Moves and arranges furniture and A/V equipment to set up rooms for meetings and special functions.
  • Cleaning and sanitizing of hard floors, under bleachers, facility restrooms, auditorium floors, seats, windows, fixtures, mirrors and carpets.
  • Empties trash and stocks supplies.
  • Operation of cleaning equipment such as vacuums, floor machines, buffers and carpet extractors.
  • Removes litter and debris from facility walkways and grounds.
  • Supervision and securing of facility.
  • Uses standard office equipment, including a computer, in the course of work.
  • Drives City vehicles to work sites, transports materials and assists other staff as required.
  • Provides customer service.
  • Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with contractors, public and City staff.
  • Acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.

  • New employees are required to submit to a fingerprint based background investigation which cost the new employee $47.00 and a drug screen which costs $36.50.
  • Carson City participates in E-Verify and will provide the Social Security Administration (SSA) and, if necessary, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS, with information from each applicant's Form I-9 to confirm work authorization.
