The Building Maintenance Worker, Painter is responsible for preparing, painting, and maintaining the interior and exterior surfaces of university buildings, ensuring a clean, safe, and attractive campus environment. The position supports university operations by performing skilled painting, surface preparation, minor drywall, and carpentry repairs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 2+ years of experience in painting or general building maintenance, preferably in a commercial, educational, or institutional setting.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare surfaces by cleaning, patching, sanding, and priming walls, ceilings, woodwork, and other surfaces.
  • Apply paint, stain, varnish, and other finishes using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment.
  • Maintain and repair painted surfaces, including touch-ups and full repaints.
  • Assist with minor drywall repair, plastering, and surface texturing.
  • Select appropriate materials and match paint colors to existing finishes.
  • Maintain painting equipment and ensure proper storage and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Perform inspections and recommend preventative maintenance or painting needs for campus facilities.
  • Collaborate with other maintenance staff on projects that require painting, minor carpentry, or surface restoration.
  • Set up scaffolding, ladders, and other equipment safely to complete jobs at various heights.
  • Follow all university safety protocols and OSHA regulations during work activities.
  • Maintain accurate records of materials used, work performed, and time spent on projects.
