About The Position

Within the Parks & Recreation Department, this position performs journeyman level maintenance duties in City facilities, to include electrical, HVAC, plumbing, painting, and carpentry. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: emergency repair and diagnostic checks of electrical, electronic, and electro-mechanical circuits; troubleshooting and making general repairs to the heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, digital analog and pneumatic instrumentation and related equipment; installing or repairing fixtures, ballasts, fuses and electrical wiring and outlets; maintenance and repair of plumbing; finish carpentry, woodworking, construction of cabinets, work stations, ramps, decks, installation of counter tops, doors, windows, and baseboards. Will perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Four years of progressively responsible related experience in particular construction specialty
  • Strong background in commercial electrical and HVAC
  • Experience in plumbing, painting, and carpentry
  • Must have a license or certification in area of specialty; Journeyman or Master license; or Associates Degree or higher in a related discipline
  • Freon Recovery License (for HVAC specialty)
  • Must complete required NIMS level training within first six months of hire
  • Knowledge of standard practices, materials, tools and safety hazards and precautions used in various building trades
  • Knowledge of various pumps and motors
  • Knowledge of electrical codes and power systems
  • Knowledge of HVAC and plumbing maintenance and repair procedures
  • Knowledge of applicable rules and codes relating to installation and repair of building equipment and fixtures
  • Knowledge of principles, practices and techniques used in general carpentry
  • Knowledge of safety rules and procedures related to area of specialty
  • Ability to solder copper tubing
  • Ability to use a wide range of hand and power tools and equipment
  • Ability to perform skilled trades such as HVAC maintenance, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, or painting
  • Ability to install or repair electrical or mechanical parts, components, or equipment
  • Ability to communicate, including the ability to read, write, interpret documents, and communicate verbally
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex problems related to building mechanical systems
  • Ability to perform basic math
  • Ability to problem solve in standardized situations involving several concrete variables
