About The Position

This is a maintenance position that cares for public and City buildings, facilities, and grounds. Work involves responsibility for the efficient performance of various tasks in and around public and City buildings and facilities. Work follows established procedures, but specific instructions on unusual jobs or problems may be given. Work is subject to inspection by a superior to maintain established standards of cleanliness and compliance with instructions. This posting will close after the receipt of the first 50 qualified applicants or one week, whichever comes first.

Requirements

  • High school diploma from an accredited school or a GED.
  • May be required to possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid telephone number.
  • Ability to learn about using personal protective equipment, materials, methods, and practices used in cleaning and maintenance operations.
  • Ability to learn the operation and care of custodial equipment, including vacuum cleaners, scrubbing machines, polishing machines, and other janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to building fixtures and equipment.
  • Ability to exercise care in using cleaning materials and industrial cleaning chemicals for different building surfaces.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other city employees, and the general public.
  • Ability to learn operation and care of grounds maintenance equipment, including lawnmowers, pressure washers, weed trimmers, blowers, and fogging devices (such as LPHV foggers) as required by assignment.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates events through contact with a lessee.
  • First point of contact on the day of rental for all event-related operations.
  • Shows building to prospective clients.
  • Reviews plans, ensuring rental components (tables, chairs, etc.) can be set up as requested by the client. If not feasible, offer other solutions.
  • Serves as a point of contact during an event.
  • May handle after-school pick up for Simpson Park and Coleman Bush.
  • Sets up and breaks down rental components (as defined above).
  • Assigns buildings or complexes to open and close.
  • Sweeps, mops, waxes, and polishes floors; washes walls, woodwork, and Venetian blinds; dusts books and desks.
  • May shampoo, extract, and bonnet buff carpet.
  • Picks up litter, empty bottles, leaves, tree, and shrub trimmings; sweeps walks; mows grass and edges walkways; plants, fertilizes, and waters flower beds, grass, and shrubbery.
  • Raises and lowers the American flag and other flags as appropriate; moves furniture and equipment; issues supplies, tools, and materials; runs errands as requested; delivers mail to various city offices.
  • Cleans restrooms and replenishes supplies; unstops sinks and toilets; and reports the need for repairs.
  • Secures buildings and checks heating, ventilation, and air conditioning units; makes minor maintenance repairs; replaces light bulbs; installs light switches; replaces fuses; repairs door locks; replaces window glass; makes basic furniture repairs.
  • Sets up and tears down meeting rooms for public use.
  • May be required to participate in and/or facilitate training to support departmental or City initiatives and requirements.
  • May be required to work overtime or alternate hours as necessary for the efficient operation of the department.
