About The Position

Under close supervision, performs basic building maintenance, graffiti removal and custodial services in City buildings and grounds for the Building Services Department (BSD). Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, performing basic building and grounds maintenance, graffiti removal, and custodial duties, including minor repairs and small parts replacements in City facilities. Duties may vary according to job assignment and individual skills. Performs maintenance and repairs within the scope of authority and in accordance with all safety regulations and BSD procedures. Notifies supervisor of safety hazards, equipment problems, and emergency situations. Learns to perform a variety of repair, maintenance, and preventive maintenance tasks. Must have and maintain a cell phone for City use to hold this position. Supports departmental operations with regular and timely attendance. Supports the relationship between the City of Odessa and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and City staff. Maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information. Performs other duties as required or assigned. Requirements

• High School diploma or GED required
• 1 year of general labor experience, building maintenance and/or general building construction.
• Knowledge of City safety rules and regulations, occupational hazards and safety precautions.
• Knowledge of materials, equipment and tools used in cleaning and maintaining buildings.
• Skill in operating and maintaining tools and equipment in a safe and effective manner.
• Skill in closely following verbal and written instructions and procedures.
• Skill in following and maintaining BSD safety standards.
• Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers.
• Skill in communication effectively verbally and in writing.
• A valid Texas State Driver's License is required.
• Successful completion of FBI criminal background fingerprint check in accordance with Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) standards.
