About The Position

This is an entry-level position that will perform minor maintenance and service as needed to support ongoing facility operations for the Facilities Department. Tasks are initiated through work requests or dispatched by the Engineering control room, call center, or management, in accordance with Hospital standards. This position will provide direct general labor support to all trades and is responsible for the procurement and pick-up of materials requested by trades. Duties include performing low-level installations, furniture assembly, troubleshooting, repairs, vent cleaning, and maintaining general building systems and structures. The role involves basic low-level maintenance service and assisting with repairs in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, plastering, snow removal, and tank delivery/changing. The technician responds to low-level requests in order of priority and assists with routine-to-complex requests as needed, ensuring a smooth transition of responsibilities to the next shift. The position also responds to all hospital emergencies, including leaks, fire alarms, odors, and snow removal. General facility cleanups of debris, construction materials, and landscape material are also required, along with landscaping functions. A valid driver's license and the ability to operate hospital vehicles are necessary. The physical demands require the employee to regularly stand, walk, use hands to finger, and crawl, and to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Requirements

  • Math ability level: 2 Basic calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication & division).
  • Human Relations skill level: Basic
  • Basic computer skills: PC software/operating systems
  • Basic standard equipment: Calculator, Copy machine, and Fax machine.
  • Frequent bend/stop, sit, stand/walk and reach 8-12hrs.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull >40<70 pounds.
  • PC Operated systems and mobile work entry devices.
  • Proficient knowledge of intranet, some Microsoft (Word, Excel).

Responsibilities

  • Perform minor maintenance and service as needed to support ongoing facility operations.
  • Procure and pick up materials requested by trades.
  • Perform low-level installations, furniture assembly, troubleshooting, and repairs.
  • Perform vent cleaning and maintain general building systems and structure.
  • Perform basic low-level maintenance service and assist with repairs in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, plastering, snow removal, and tank delivery and changing.
  • Respond to low-level requests in order of priority and assist with routine-to-complex requests.
  • Ensure smooth transition of responsibilities to the next shift.
  • Respond to all hospital emergencies of any nature (e.g., leaks, fire alarms, odors, snow removal).
  • Perform general facility cleanups of debris, construction materials, and landscape material.
  • Perform landscaping functions.
  • Take the initiative to identify and report deficiencies in the physical plant by submitting work orders.
  • Diagnose and resolve trouble ticket/work orders thoroughly until completed.
  • Routinely follow up with manager to communicate or request assistance to complete work orders.
  • Follow up with the requester after completion of a work order to ensure the problem has been corrected.
  • Routinely utilize all safety measures as related to work orders and specific tasks.
  • Follow up with the requestor regarding work orders in a timely manner.
  • Communicate to requester steps for completion of work order and provide any follow-up information.
  • Represent the engineering staff in a professional and helpful manner.
  • Anticipate and respond to customer needs; follow up until needs are met.
  • Compile a list of materials to be ordered and submit to supervisor.
  • Complete and update work orders daily for work completed each day.
  • Prepare requisitions for ERP.
  • Assist with project needs as assigned.
  • Use supply order system, work order system, and email system.
  • Speak up when team members appear to exhibit unsafe behavior or performance.
  • Continuously validate and verify information needed for decision making or documentation.

  • Assist with minor repairs to general use plumbing fixtures (e.g., sinks, toilets, showers), replace valves, washers, and fixtures.
  • Replace lighting tubes and bulbs.
  • Perform basic repairs to doors, knobs, and closures.
  • Mount pictures, diplomas, chalkboards, dispensers, etc.
  • Assemble carts, tables, and other furniture items; assist with furniture moves.
  • Follow all applicable guidelines pertaining to infection control.
  • Install and maintain infection control devices.
  • Mount and perform minor services on electrical components.
  • Repair or replace desk and cabinet locks, door knobs, and locks.
  • Perform high dusting, including vent cleaning, ledges, fixtures, and sprinkler heads.
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair firewalls, smoke barriers, and other rated structures.
  • Respond to emergencies (e.g., water leaks, fire alarms), assess damage, make repairs, or notify appropriate personnel.
  • Replace damaged ceiling tiles.
  • Pick up, deliver, and install all portable pressurized gas tanks.
  • Complete assigned rounds through areas of responsibility to ensure they are well-maintained and create work orders for deficiencies.
  • Report problems to the control room and notify the Control Room or On-Call Manager of any safety hazards noted during rounds.
  • Track material used daily and ensure an adequate supply is always available.
  • In emergencies and/or crisis situations in any essential utility, respond appropriately to assist in restoring the system to operational status.
  • Respond to trouble and fire alarms and take corrective action; serve as a member of the fire disaster team.
  • Respond to all emergencies, troubleshoot, and provide assistance to the control room as needed (e.g., electrical outages, water penetrations, weather emergencies).
  • Perform maintenance repairs initiated through work orders, including general plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and maintenance work (e.g., replacing light bulbs, providing temporary power, unstopping sinks, responding to temperature control issues).
  • Assist with work related to general hospital maintenance.
