About The Position

The Building Maintenance Technician reviews and completes all work assigned by the Building Maintenance Supervisor (BMS) or delegate. They perform all assigned work following safety protocols provided by the BMS or delegate, also following any safety and/or caution labels on equipment or products used; as well as wearing / using all PPE required for the job. The Building Maintenance Technician 2 will log all completed tasks into Hippo CMMS, using detailed notes. They may be asked conduct monthly inspections, liaise with other departments and escort outside contractors.

Requirements

  • Three (3) years of previous relevant experience;
  • High School diploma and be a graduate from an approved training program;
  • College graduate or have equivalent related job experience;
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks with minimum supervision / Strong organizational skills including record keeping;
  • Experience using Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word
  • Possess and maintain valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to effectively problem solve, take initiative and work as a member of a team;
  • Ability to perform physical labour as it relates to facilities maintenance;
  • Ability to understand shop drawings and blueprints;
  • Strong communication skills;
  • Proven customer service skills;
  • Ability to travel;
  • Ability to obtain and retain an Airport Restricted Area Identity Card in accordance with the Airport Restricted Area Access Clearance Program regulated by Transport Canada.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience operating heavy equipment would be an asset
  • Ability to communicate in Inuktut a definitive asset

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for building maintenance including renovation, refit works, patching and painting;
  • Responsible for grounds maintenance to ensure safe and clean access to building occupants;
  • Responsible for shipping/receiving of supplies/goods
  • Responsible for conducting running electrical repairs;
  • Responsible for conducting plumbing repairs such as catch basin and water closet maintenance;
  • Responsible for conducting HVAC repairs and predictive maintenance on all building systems;
  • Responsible for assembling furniture and repairs to Furniture/Fixture/Equipment (FFE);
  • Ensure safety standards are maintained in regards to Fire/Life/Safety including Audits, Inspections, Reporting and Record Maintenance;
  • Ensure that physical security is maintained and in working order at all times;
  • Assists in the implementation of facility capital and major projects;
  • Assists in the maintenance of evacuation plans and drills for Facilities;
  • Ensure compliance to building, fire, electrical and other related codes;
  • Liaise with occupants, vendors, contractor`s and landlords to ensure smooth facility operations, including obtaining quotations;
  • Travel to Canadian North Facilities in AB, NU and NWT may be required;
  • Maintain clean and orderly work areas;
  • Provide excellent customer service;
  • Other duties as assigned.
