About The Position

Open Door Mission is seeking a dependable, hands-on Facilities Maintenance Technician to help keep our buildings, grounds, and equipment safe, functional, and welcoming. Our facilities are more than buildings-they are places where individuals and families find safety, support, and an opportunity for transformation. In this role, you'll use your maintenance and repair skills to directly support that mission by ensuring our properties are well maintained and ready to serve our guests, students, employees, and community. Requirements

  • Be a committed Christian with a passion for Open Door Mission's work of "restoring hope and changing lives."
  • Serve as a positive role model for our guests and program students.
  • Have at least one year of experience in building maintenance, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, or a related field.
  • Have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Be comfortable and skilled using hand tools, shop tools, and power tools.
  • Be safety-conscious and knowledgeable about general facility operations and maintenance.
  • Be a self-starter who can work independently while also collaborating effectively with staff, volunteers, students, and vendors.
  • Be able to prioritize work and adapt when plans change or unexpected maintenance needs arise.
  • Remain calm and solution-focused during emergencies.
  • Communicate professionally and courteously with employees, donors, volunteers, guests, students, and outside vendors.
  • Be able to read and write and communicate through email.
  • Be available to work evenings and/or weekends when needed.
  • Candidates must hold a current, valid New York State Driver's License and be willing to authorize a driving-record and background check.
  • Drivers must meet Open Door Mission's insurance requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional experience is preferred.
  • Unless a position is specifically designated as non-driving, Facilities employees are expected to be able to operate Open Door Mission fleet vehicles. Our fleet includes a box truck, refrigerated van, 8-passenger and 12-passenger vans, and pickup truck.

Responsibilities

  • Complete assigned facilities work orders from start to finish in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Perform general building maintenance and repairs, including carpentry, remodeling, basic electrical, plumbing, painting, locks, appliances, fixtures, and equipment commonly found in residential and commercial facilities.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance and safety inspections.
  • Help ensure buildings, equipment, and grounds remain clean, safe, functional, and well maintained.
  • Assist with seasonal and outdoor work, including snow removal, garbage removal, lawn mowing, and general grounds maintenance.
  • Assemble, disassemble, and move office furniture and equipment.
  • Identify maintenance or safety concerns and communicate them appropriately to the Facilities Director.
  • Work with outside vendors when needed.
  • Complete required work-order documentation and other facilities records.
  • Provide task oversight to volunteers and program students when assigned.
  • Help protect the safety and security of Mission facilities and property.
  • Remain flexible and willing to assist with building and grounds needs across multiple properties.
  • Share responsibility for responding to occasional after-hours facility emergencies, such as heating failures, water leaks, or weather-related concerns.
