About The Position

The City of Riverside, General Services Department is accepting applications for the position of Building Maintenance Crew Leader to fill one (1) vacancy in the Building Maintenance Division. The eligibility list established may be used to fill the current and/or upcoming vacancies within this classification for up to six (6) months. The Building Maintenance Crew Leader leads, guides, assigns, monitors, and performs skilled work in the maintenance, construction, alteration and general upkeep of City buildings, structures, and facilities.

Requirements

  • High School graduation or satisfactory equivalent (GED).
  • Five (5) years of experience in a skilled building maintenance trade involving a variety of maintenance and repair tasks and preferably additional experience in one or more in another trade.
  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship or certification of completion from a recognized vocational training institute may substitute for one year of the required experience.
  • Possession of a valid appropriate Class “C” California Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.
  • May require possession of, or the ability to obtain, an appropriate valid California Commercial Motor Vehicle Operator’s License based upon operational need and the duties assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, monitor, assign, and guide the maintenance, repair, and service of buildings throughout the City; perform carpentry, painting, mechanical, electrical, or other specialized maintenance skills; assignments and skills may change based on assignment or level of complexity.
  • Oversee rough and finish carpentry activities and perform tasks using standard carpenter hand tools and power-driven wood working equipment; frame walls and partitions, install wallboard, paneling, windows, doors, hardware, and floor coverings, repair roofs, and repair and build cabinets, shelves, and similar furniture items.
  • Install, maintain, and repair plumbing systems and a variety of plumbing fixtures, valves, and piping; maintain decorative fountains, sprinkler systems, and swimming pool equipment; monitor crew performance and ensure quality and safety.
  • Prepare and apply paints to a variety of surfaces with brushes, spray guns, and other painting equipment; prepare surfaces, mix and match paints and stains, apply paint to building interiors and exteriors, fixtures, machinery, electrical equipment or structures, and refinish furniture; provide direction and leadership to crews.
  • Maintain, repair, and evaluate pumps, air compressors, pneumatic tools, air handling units, fans, cooling towers, heating boilers, and other related mechanical equipment; make minor repairs to and perform minor maintenance to small office machines such as photocopiers and microfilm equipment; change air conditioning filters.
  • Perform, oversee, and delegate a variety of other building and facilities maintenance work such as pouring and finishing concrete, plaster patching, and glazing; assist in building moves and set ups, moving and arranging furniture, and shelving.
  • Receive and process work orders for various maintenance needs throughout the City; oversee completion and monitor quality, estimate prices, and ensure completion.
  • Maintain records of maintenance work and inspections.
  • Perform general clean up and custodial duties as necessary for building maintenance and safety.
  • Work overtime as required to maintain continuity of work flow, respond to building maintenance emergencies, and participate in on call assignments as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
