About The Position

League City's Building Inspectors help our community safely grow by conducting inspections of new and remodeled residential and/or commercial buildings to ensure compliance with City building codes, ordinances and inspection processes. They coordinate these inspections with contractors and advise citizens and contractors of building procedures and city policies. This is a safety sensitive and/or DOT position. As such, you will be required to participate in random drug testing at the city.

Requirements

  • Valid Class "C" Texas driver's license
  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • Must be able to provide services for the benefit of the general public during emergency situations that threaten the safety of League City's citizens, and that, City employees must be able to work immediately before, during, or immediately after an emergency.

Nice To Haves

  • One year experience as a building inspector (for Building Inspector I)
  • Three years experience as a building inspector (for Building Inspector II)
  • Five years experience as a building inspector (for Building Inspector III)
  • Must possess 3 current ICC Certifications: Residential Building, Plumbing, Mechanical and Electrical (for Building Inspector II)
  • Must possess current State of Texas Plumbing Inspector License (for Building Inspector III)
  • Must possess all 3 current Residential ICC Certifications (for Building Inspector III)
  • Must possess at least 3 Commercial ICC Certifications in Building, Mechanical and Electrical (for Building Inspector III)

Responsibilities

  • Performs residential and light commercial building, mechanical, electrical and plumbing inspections to ensure that new construction, alterations, and repairs comply with building codes, ordinances, zoning regulations, and contract specifications.
  • Monitors the status of construction inspection activities and keeps track of permits issued.
  • Notifies the construction contractor, superintendent, or supervisor when violations of building codes or ordinances are identified.
  • Investigates new construction or alterations being done without proper permits and issue "stop work orders".
  • Performs all other work as assigned.
  • Must be able to provide services for the benefit of the general public during emergency situations that threaten the safety of League City’s citizens, and must be able to work immediately before, during, or immediately after an emergency.
