Building Inspector I, II, III
About The Position
Highland is seeking a Building Inspector to review construction plans, conduct field inspections, and work with contractors, property owners, and residents to resolve code questions. This role helps ensure that homes and businesses in our community are built safely and meet adopted codes. The position may be hired at Level I, II, or III based on qualifications. The role includes work at outdoor construction sites in varying weather and on uneven surfaces, as well as travel within the city. Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Inspector I: two years of construction industry experience, or one year of related experience plus all four residential certifications.
- Inspector II: four years of construction industry experience, including two years of building inspections and plan checking; and full residential ICC/State inspector certification.
- Inspector III: six years of industry experience, including five years of building inspections and plan checking; and full residential and commercial inspector certification.
- Candidates must be at least 18
- Hold a valid Utah driver's license
- Pass a drug screen and background check
- All qualified applicants must pass a pre-employment testing including but not limited to: Background check (18 years of age and older), Driving Record Review, Drug Screen, and Human Performance Evaluation.

- Inspector I: This is a training level for inspectors working toward ICC/State certification.
Responsibilities
- Inspect residential and commercial construction for compliance with approved plans and applicable building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, fire, and zoning codes.
- Review plans and specifications, applying technical judgment to construction methods and materials.
- Explain inspection findings clearly, document violations, and follow up on corrections.
- Answer questions from builders, architects, engineers, property owners, and the public.
- Maintain inspection records and stay current on code changes.

- Pay Range: Building Inspector I $25.96 - $33.75
- Pay Range: Building Inspector II $28.86 - $40.41
- Pay Range: Building Inspector III $32.33 - $45.26
- Starting wage will be based on education and experience.
