About The Position

The City of Friendswood is accepting applications for a full-time Building Inspector in the Community Development Department. The position enforces City building codes and ordinances through site plan reviews and construction inspections. The inspector reviews construction plans, conducts building inspections, processes permits, and supports compliance with applicable City ordinances and codes. The position may require 24-hour availability during emergency conditions.

Requirements

• Two years of college or two years of experience in building inspections or code enforcement; a combination of other pertinent experience may be considered.
• Knowledge of the International Building Code, International Residential Code, plumbing code, gas code, mechanical code, National Electrical Code, state plumbing examiners guide, City codes, sign ordinances, zoning ordinance, and state windstorm resistant construction guide.
• Texas State Board of Plumbing Inspector License.
• Certification as a Residential Combination Inspector through the International Code Council.
• Valid Texas driver's license and good driving record.

Responsibilities

• Review construction plans for compliance with applicable codes and ordinances and work with architects, engineers, and builders to achieve compliance.
• Perform building construction inspections to ensure compliance with City building codes and the flood control ordinance.
• Prepare correspondence related to inspection activities.
• Enter relevant inspection information into computer systems.
• Assist with enforcement of nuisance, swimming pool fence, substandard structure, and sign ordinances.
• Process building permit applications, including receiving fees.
• Work with subdivision homeowners' associations to achieve compliance before approving building permits.
• Work with the Construction Building Board of Adjustment and the Electrical Board concerning code interpretation.
• Perform other duties within areas of responsibility and ability as assigned.
