The City of La Vista is seeking a motivated and customer-focused Building Inspector II to join our Community Development team. Requirements

  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to establish positive working relationships with the public and construction professionals
  • Self-starter who can work independently and manage priorities effectively
  • Team-oriented mindset with a willingness to support coworkers and department goals
  • Knowledge of construction methods, building codes, and inspection practices
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and problem-solving skills
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Five years of construction experience or a combination of post-secondary education and related experience
  • Valid driver's license required

Nice To Haves

  • ICC Certification in a related discipline or the ability to obtain certification within one year of hire

Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections of residential and commercial construction projects
  • Review building plans for compliance with applicable codes and ordinances
  • Assist residents, contractors, and developers by providing guidance and excellent customer service
  • Investigate code-related concerns and help resolve issues professionally and fairly
  • Perform rental inspections and issue residential light remodel permits
  • Maintain accurate records and inspection reports
  • Work collaboratively with City staff while managing responsibilities independently
