About The Position
The City of La Vista is seeking a motivated and customer-focused Building Inspector II to join our Community Development team. This position offers a unique opportunity to work both independently and collaboratively while helping ensure safe, high-quality development throughout our growing community. Requirements
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Ability to establish positive working relationships with the public and construction professionals
- Self-starter who can work independently and manage priorities effectively
- Team-oriented mindset with a willingness to support coworkers and department goals
- Knowledge of construction methods, building codes, and inspection practices
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and problem-solving skills
- High school diploma or GED required
- Five years of construction experience or a combination of post-secondary education and related experience
- Valid driver's license required
Nice To Haves
- ICC Certification in a related discipline or the ability to obtain certification within one year of hire
Responsibilities
- Conduct inspections of residential and commercial construction projects
- Review building plans for compliance with applicable codes and ordinances
- Assist residents, contractors, and developers by providing guidance and excellent customer service
- Investigate code-related concerns and help resolve issues professionally and fairly
- Perform rental inspections and issue residential light remodel permits
- Maintain accurate records and inspection reports
- Work collaboratively with City staff while managing responsibilities independently
