About The Position

The City of Napa is seeking a Building Inspector I/II to perform technical building inspections for the Building Division in the Community Resources and Development Department. This role involves performing inspections for commercial, residential, and industrial projects, and enforcing compliance with building codes, regulations, and ordinances. Building Inspectors work closely with developers, architects, and contractors to maintain code requirements and resolve problems related to code compliance. The ideal candidate will have experience in the construction or building trades, and/or experience as a Building Inspector for a city or county jurisdiction.

Requirements

  • Experience in the construction or building trades, and/or experience as a Building Inspector for a city or county jurisdiction.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of building inspection.
  • Ability to keep up with current developments in code enforcement.
  • Ability to manage relationships, build trust, encourage two-way communication, and strengthen relationships.

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of an International Code Council (ICC) Building Inspection Certificate is required within one year of hire (for Building Inspector I).
  • Possession of an ICC Electrical Inspector, Mechanical Inspector, Plumbing Inspector, Combination Inspector, Plans Examiner, or CASp Certification is desirable (for Building Inspector I).
  • A CASp Certification is desirable (for Building Inspector II).

Responsibilities

  • Perform technical building inspections for commercial, residential, and industrial projects.

  • Perform field inspections and ensure compliance with codes and regulations.
