Our Head Start - Building & Grounds Department is seeking to hire a Building & Grounds Maintenance Technician to prioritize the safety and well-being of each child, parent, visitor, and staff member by ensuring the facility is well-maintained and in good repair.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • English fluency – Speak, read, and write.
  • Basic knowledge and experience in carpentry, plumbing, electricity, and mechanical tasks.
  • Skilled in the use of hand power tools – i.e., hammers, hoists, saws, drills, wrenches, etc.
  • Knowledge of safety hazards and proper use of various cleaning and sanitizing solutions.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Must be observant and report suspicious activity to security personnel and the supervisor.
  • Ability to perform physical labor, including climbing, crawling, squatting, lifting up to 50 lbs., and standing for extended periods.
  • Valid driver’s license with a good and insurable driving history.
  • Strong time management skills, with the ability to maintain focus while working individually.
  • Must present a professional attitude with the ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with co-workers and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance of buildings and grounds.
  • Ensure that buildings & grounds are kept in good repair and free of hazards, debris, and clutter.
  • Assist with the renovation/remodeling of buildings as directed.
  • Conduct routine inspections of equipment, buildings, and grounds to identify potential concerns and issues, such as boilers, furnaces, washers/dryers, and AC units.
  • Assist in inspecting the HS/EHS schools for safety hazards and report any deficiencies to the Building and Grounds Supervisor.
  • Transport materials, supplies, and furniture as directed.
  • Assist with facilitating the repairs of agency vehicles.
  • Ensure that the daily cleaning checklist has been reviewed and completed as required. The daily cleaning checklist may be specific to the assigned HS/EHS school or property.
  • Perform custodial duties, including garbage disposal, snow removal, and lawn maintenance, as required. Sidewalks and driveways must be kept clear of snow, ice, leaves, and other debris.
  • Maintain a neat and orderly custodian’s room or closet, ensuring that cleaning and bathroom supplies are readily available and stocked.
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned.
