About The Position

Reporting to the Deputy Chief Facilities Officer, the Building & Grounds Manager is a strategic and hands-on leader responsible for overseeing building maintenance, grounds operations, preventive maintenance programs, renovations and capital assets across campus. This role leads and develops a skilled team, manages budgets and resources, drives operational excellence, and ensures safe, efficient and sustainable facilities that support the University’s mission of providing access to education, student success, community engagement and environmental stewardship. Through collaboration with campus partners, contractors and suppliers, this position plays a vital role in advancing UW-Green Bay’s strategic priorities, including student success, community connections, digital transformation and sustainability. Requirements

  • Associates Degree in related field or 3 years of Supervisory experience in a complex environment at time of application
  • 5 years of experience performing maintenance work or a related field of a complex nature
  • Mechanical aptitude to repair mechanical equipment or building components
  • Working knowledge of desktop hardware and standard business software programs (word processing, spreadsheets, database) and the Internet

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction, Engineering, Architecture or related field
  • 5 years of Supervisory experience in a complex environment
  • 3 years of experience working on building systems such as mechanical, electrical, or architectural components
  • Experience in a higher education environment
  • Supervisory and training skills necessary to direct the work of others, effectively resolve performance concerns, and evaluate performance standards
  • Ability to develop appropriate work plans; anticipate seasonal conditions, set priorities, coordinate multiple tasks and assign work to effectively accomplish desired outcomes
  • Knowledge of safe work programs, such as LOTO, Confined space, ArcFlash, and proper PPE
  • Working knowledge of the operational and safety requirements for power hand tools and fixed machinery such as table saws, drill presses, paint-mixing machines, and pipe threaders
  • Understanding of the maintenance and repair procedures necessary to ensure the proper and safe operations of all the mechanical and power equipment
  • Ability to read and understand complex operating manuals and technical drawings
  • Knowledge of methods, equipment, and materials used in construction and repair work
  • Performance often under pressure to meet multiple customer service and operational demands, sometimes without adequate resources while maintaining service standards
  • Must be resourceful and manage the workload independently, eliciting the support and cooperation of students and peers

Responsibilities

  • Directs day-to-day operations of the unit to provide technical advice, problem solving assistance, and unit goals and policy interpretation
  • Schedules logistics and secures resources for program activities across multiple work units to ensure optimum efficiency and compliance with appropriate policies, procedures, and specifications
  • Prepares periodic reports and financial statements, and records progress, status, or other special reports for leadership or external agencies
  • Implements and evaluates existing strategies and objectives for building and grounds operations and makes recommendations to unit leadership for program or function enhancement
  • Monitors the unit budget and approves unit expenditures
  • Oversee and coordinate preventive maintenance operations by using TMA software to schedule, assign, and track work orders; manage maintenance records and backlog reduction efforts; inspect facilities, vehicles, and equipment; ensure quality workmanship; and collaborate with staff and service providers to maintain safe, cost-effective building operations.
  • Identifies, proposes, and implements new or revised unit operational policies and procedures
  • Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
  • Lead and coordinate renovation projects by planning layouts and demolition, directing construction and finishing work, conducting site inspections, collaborating with contractors and staff, and performing hands-on skilled work to ensure quality, safety, and timely project completion.
